I find it to be a marvelous lens, and I got two copies as a result, knowing that it might be discontinued. Both of my copies are excellent. Hope that Ricoh comes up with a replacement one day.

As much as I like the 645Z, their lens introduction strategy doesn't appeal too much to me as of right now. I'd like to see a macro with longer focal length, a fast portrait prime, and a shift lens. I like the system in part because of the older lenses. Leica's lens line-up is much more appealing to me, but the price is beyond my means. Together, the FA, A, 67, and DA lenses work for me though, but some of the older designs would benefit from the introduction of replacements. This was less obvious with the 645D and becomes more important with the 645Z.

Not surprised it's gone. Hands down worst MF lens I've ever shot with. Both of them. Simply unsharp at near-infinitity. So strange.

I find in 25mm D FA to be pretty sharp, but it pales in comparison to the 28-45 (though I haven't tried it yet on my 645Z, just the D). It's sharper than my 35mm. I thought about selling it, but think I'll hang onto it a while longer, as it's still useful in tight situations and doesn't look like it should decrease in value any since it's now discontinued.

Looks like there were at least inconsistent production standards and perhaps Pentax/Hoya struggled with getting those big elements properly assembled. I must say I have always longed for a MF wide angle lens this wide and with little distortion, and for me, this lens fulfilled that dream. Others might have had different experiences and/or different photographic needs, and I respect that.

In November last year, I got the information from a Pentax embassador in Germany that the lens will be discontinued, because the producer of the lenses used in the D-FA 25mm f/4 has problems to deliver the right quality of a specific element. (too many lenses out of spec.). I should hurry if I want one.

I could not find any evidence for his statement and couldnīt afford to buy one at that time.

Now I finally decided to get it. Seems to be on the very last moment.

At least mine is razor sharp. I bit of CA in high contrast situation (tree shot against the sky), but this can be corrected in LR with one click.

I would welcome something a little wider in the future lineup too, like an 18 or 21mm
