the pentax 645d editor

we are all talking about the 645d and the 645z and the good lenses we are using. what about the software that comes with it?????? I find it difficult to use. I tried it when I first bought the camera, and had limited success with it. after being away from it for a year, I find getting back into it most difficult. I would like to look into the brain of thee guys who wrote it and see how they are put together.

Try out Lightroom...

Download Lightroom Demo and try on your own.
I prefer it. Fast and good results - still needs some time learn how to use.

I use Adobe Camera Raw and Adobe Photoshop CS6. ACR in CS6 does a great job of bring up shadows while simultaneously keeping the brights down without much loss of quality. I found a big improvement in processing 645D files when I upgraded from my previous version of ACR to CS6, as before it would create weird grey "blown out" areas where sky met land if I pushed the highlights down and shadows up in a file...no problem with that at all in the newer version. I've never used Lightroom or felt I needed any other software as this combination seems to do very well for me.

I never even tried the software that came with the camera

Raw Therapee

Try Raw Therapee 41. It is very comprehensive.

Best RAW converters for 645D^

PENTAX Digital Camera Utility 4 - RAW convert to TIFF 16bit

RPP for Mac - RAW convert to TIFF 16bit

and open this tiff in Adobe Photoshop 6 (ACR) for further editing. Why is that you ask? Because this method gives natural color and the ability to fine-tune the ACR.
