Can Waterproof remote control O-RC1 be used with Bulb?

Hello there,

I have always been impressed with the weather sealing of the 645D, but one weak point is the remote release socket. If this is open when the camera is exposed to moisture, I have had malfunctions occur. Which got me wondering about the wireless remotes, such as the O-RC1. Are they a good solution, since they do not need the opening around the remote release socket to be opened? Do they work from the rear, or do you have to point it at the front? Can they be used with Bulb mode? If so, how? Do you need to hold the button in continuously, or is there a way to lock it, or to have one button press start the exposure and another end it?

All advice gratefully received!

Ed

Yes the remote works in bulb. There should be two modes in the menu you can choose, mode 1; first push to open the shutter and second push to close. Mode 2 would be push and hold.

On higher end models (which the 645D certainly is), the remote sensors are both in front and on the back of the camera, keeping the weather sealing intact. On entry/mid I believe the sensors are front and side.

The remote works very good and it has been very consistent with my cameras so far (Kr, K7, K5, K3 and Q). I never measured but the range isn't too bad either, I'd say probably 30 feet (10 meters).

Works well , basic, one push to start one to stop, only issue i have had and that was with 2 separate units, in that in cold i.e. around -2 Deg C to around 1-2 degrees, the damn thing if left out in the open, i.e. around neck on lanyard it refuses to work, only on warming it up , does it start working again…very weird….
