Yup, it was officially announced at midnight EST, but it seems that Pentax is asleep and hasn't published the press release yet...

More than three pounds of glass. Gonna have to upgrade filters to 82mm.

I'm very dissapointed with this lens. It seems like the 645 system is no longer a field system. Maybe I should start wishing for a 36mp FF K-mount body.
The lens weight nearly 1.5kg. This is a (bad) joke. In comparison, the 33-55/4.5, which is an FF (645) lens, weight only about 1/3 of the 28-45.
What do you need SR for when the lens/camera combination is hardly liftable? At 3kg you won't hold the camera for long periods of time. That's for sure......

17 elements in 12 groups doesn't sound good for the prospect of great flare supression....

I suspect the lens and the system is optimized for videographers. Landscape photographers do not need a 1.5kg lens or SR....

Sweet! I'll be curious to see pricing and then see results from others that pick up the lens first. I'm pretty happy with my 25 and 35 primes, but a zoom could be a nice future investment.

That's weird. The link is no longer active. I guess B&H realized that they broke the embargo and took it down. To me, the weight is a big turn-off since I mostly do landscapes and often go on strenuous hikes in the Sierra. I will be tempted only If they can keep the price reasonable (under $5000) and offer substantially improved IQ over the A and FA 35mm, which are already pretty good lenses.

They're looking into what happened as we speak- I'm curious myself why the page was pulled.

Everything as expected, so far. I am sure that an excellent lens in this range (with this I mean something better than the 33-55) will be heavy and large. I also think that such a lens is a much needed addition to the line-up and I'd be happy to shell out $8K for it. Folks need to get used to the concept that if Pentax/Ricoh are supposed to produce great lenses they will cost money. And I am not interested in second rate lenses for the system as it makes little sense.

The newer DFA lens have metal bodies instead of plastic and they are weather sealed. Weather sealing makes the newer lens more suitable for fieldwork. More weight is inevitable.

That links states it's the first optically stabilised lens - not so. What about the 90?

Yup, they must have made a typo. It's the first stabilized zoom, however.

1.5kg is the weight of a Canon 70-200 f/2.8 IS II. So, I think that's pretty heavy. Yet, I never had any problem carrying my Canon DSLR along with a 300 f/2.8 + 1.4/2x with a 70-200 f/2.8 along with another 2.8 zoom or 2 prime lenses all day including some hiking. The 645Z is heavy, but it balance better than my previous 1ds or my 5dm3.
