67 90mm Leaf Shutter lens + 2X converter?

Is it possible to use the Pentax 2X converter w/ my 90LS to get the equivalent of 180mm f/5.6 flash sync capability? I would prefer to carry a 2X converter than purchase a 165LS as I already have the 165mm f/2.8 lens.

I have the 165LS lens and I 'think' I recall something about the fact that the LS feature won't work with an extender. Not sure on that. If so that might be an issue for the 90LS as well. YMMV

Per the T6-2X Manual, it cannot be used on the following lenses:
  • 500mm f5.6
  • 1000mm f8
  • All lenses with a focal length shorter than 135mm
And it also gives a chart of compatible lenses that contradicts those words given in the body of the manual it seems.

I can't speak to using the this exact set up but I have used the 90mm LS with the 67-645 adapter and the 645 Pentax 1.4x A converter with flash.and for general photography. It worked quite well. I can see how if there is too much slop in the system there might be issues but it worked well for me.

Yes and no.

The late gray 67 2x rear converter can be used with the 90/2.8 & 165/4 LS lenses Only in the non leaf shutter regular mode.

So you will need to get the longer 165/4 LS if you want that FL.

It seems purchasing a 165LS is the way to go. They aren't terribly expensive, so thanks to all for the input and feedback. Very appreciative!

The 165/4 LS is a better all around lens than the older 90/2.8 LS as well.

The 90mm LS can do things the 165mm LS cannot. Multiple exposures and pure leaf shutter mode for instance. Get both!

Yes of course! Hopefully the OP does not sell his 90/2.8 LS will ends up with two LS lenses.

I picked up the 90/LS a while back to add another focal length to my leaf shutter capability. It also added comprehension both to my lens line up and camera functionality. I don't do a lot of double exposures - if at all - but if you have a 6x7/67 model at least you now have that option. And note multiple exposures means more than two!

I do agree. I'm using this big lens quite often to 'pull in' scenes that I can't really get to safely. Except for its weight and idiosyncratic modus-operandi, I have no quibble with the optical performance. For the 90mm, I much prefer the ordinary 2.8 version.

While multiexposures cannot be used with the 165LS as they can on the 90LS (and this has disappointed some photographers), an on-body Pentax factory modification of the 67 body to allow multiexposures (where fitted — not very common) gets around this deftly. The lens is none the wiser for what the camera is getting up to, and no harm is occasioned the lens or the camera with this procedure.

Definitely, NOT selling my 90LS but, thanks to the glowing user reviews, I will add the 165LS to my arsenal! Gotta love the 67 and affordable lenses on the second hand market...

165mm f/4 LS on it's way to my bag of goodies! Should arrive next week. Hoping that it is a sharp one and interested to see differences compared to 90LS...
