I have used that technique before. I always get light bleeding into the product have never gotten acceptable results with that. Could it be that the background is too close to the item ?

its possible, I do not really use it, I rather cut the jewelry and change the BG, which also makes me not to worry that much about dust and fingerprints on the BG. And as I focus stack everything, I have no problems with borders being blurry which is a problem to cut out stuff.

Thanks for the report Victor. I've debated 25mm vs. 28-45mm; I think you make a compelling case for the zoom.

Don't have the 25 but the zoom is a delight to use. Just need a tripod head that doesn't droop for those contemplated shots. Hand held it is phenomenal. The weight and size of the 28-45mm just becomes an irrelevance once you use it

Something would be awesome given the size and weight is a collar foot for the lens, sort of what you use on a 70-200 on a Canon or Nikon. I use a RRS ball head and things do NOT move once locked. At the studio have a 300 pounds camera stand with a geared head, so no problem there.
