Just ordered a 645Z and I need help with lenses

Hello,

I am a newbie here and I would like help/information on using Pentax 67 and Hasselblad V lenses with the 645Z.

I have the 50mm Distagon and the 150mm Sonnar.
For Pentax 67 , I have the 55mm f4, 90mm f2.8, 135mm Macro and the 165mm f2.8.

Are any of these usable until I purchase a 645 lens?

Many thanks,
Mike

The 6x7 lenses will be usable in Av and M mode with a simple adapter. More information can be found here:
Review: Pentax 645D vs. Nikon D3x - Construction and Handling | PentaxForums.com Reviews

I would recommend getting, at the very least, the D FA 55mm F2.8 lens. The other DA/DFA lenses are also stellar, though expensive.

aside from the new hi-priced lenses, there are a bunch of used 645 and 6x7 lenses on the used market, many are of top quality.

Why more lenses now?

Not sure you need anything but two adapters right now. Why no evaluate what you have first and decide what you need to add. Also, since you don't say what type of photographs you want to make, it would be hard for us to suggest lenses.

Hi,
I do landscape and macro photography. Use 100 Leica Macro-Elmarit on Canon for flowers and macro.
I have the 50mm Zeiss Distagon and Pentax 6x7 90mm, 55mm and 165mm.
I don't know if the resolution and color correction will be adequate for the 645Z sensor.

Thanks,
Mike

Try your existing lenses with adapters to find out if they meet your demands. The Pentax 90mm (Double Gauss) is a proven lens. The 55mm latest is know for sharpness and is actually a Distagon-like design. The 165 f/2.8 (Double Gauss) is also well regarded. I have never heard of any reports on these lenses having color correction problems (secondary spectrum). You might find their f/22 DOF a bit limiting. In that case, the 55-100 and 90-180 zooms are the answer.

With the 67 lenses, you will be using only the center portion, less than half the image circle. Should give great results. One way to find out, test.

I will test these lenses on my 645Z - Thanks to all !!!

Hello,

I will give the lenses a test over the weekend. I only have the Fotodiox 6x7 adapter for the 645Z.

I tested the 50mm Distagon and it looks like a keeper - even for close-ups (It has the floating lens design).

You guys are the best!

Take care,
Mike

Hey congratulations on the leap to 645z It's an amazing machine and wish you the best for creating amazing images from it

Talking about lenses, I started with a 55/2.8 new one with the camera (got a good deal on it).

Then I went for the 6x7 adapter and bought a used 105/2.4 lens. I now use this one for most portrait sessions when the subject has patience for manual focus

Most recently I got a fotodiox adapter for Hasselblad V to 645z along with a 150/2.8. I was trying to go for a lot of bokeh for wedding shoots however I have found the 150 to be very difficult to accurately focus wide open. My copy has a strange haze at f/4 only. Other aperture values are very clear and sharp. So the experience was mixed. On a tripod with enough time to focus, results wide open are amazing.

Lenses that are good and cheap on the second hand market are the Pentax 645-lenses FA 75mm and FA 150MM that are both auto focus.

Sounds like a bad copy. I have 2 x 150/2.8's and both are pretty decent wide open handheld, I would recommend sticking to high shutter speeds i.e. 1/500 or faster.
