What would the Pentax 645 FA 150mm IF lens cost today

I am trying to find this lens USED and in very good condition. How much should I expect to pay for one? Thank you

Your best bet is a reputable Japanese eBay reseller. Lots of used Pentax 645 gear in Japan. The guy who runs Luminous Landscape also recommends.

I was never that impressed with this lens, and it has spiked in price recently. I picked up the A-series f3.5 lens instead, for less than $100, in exc++ condition. It's a delightful little optic. If you find the FA 150 a bit too expensive, you might consider trying one of those.

I've been considering buying an FA 45-85 and FA 80-160 and renting a 654Z body as need for studio events, full body and head shots.

I've got a FA150mm and 2 A-series 150mm. In tests I did a couple of weeks back, the older A series had slightly better IQ. They're much smaller and about 1/10th the price. Don't rule them out if you don't need AF.

but the FA is a 2.8 and that can be a considerable advantage to someone who is specific in their needs. Speed and DOF.

I have both and have found I use the 45-85 much more. But before I purchased a FA 150mm f2.8 I was using the 80-160 for tight head shots. Remarkable value for both lenses.

Would you say that the 45-85 is a good replacement for 2 lenses that I have, I have the DFA 55.2.8 and FA 150 2.8 for my 645D? Also, is the 45-85 heavy? I don't want to be restricted to a tripod. Thank you

I really can't comment on replacing your 55 2.8 since I've never used that lens. I would not eject the 150 2.8 since the 45-85 is just a tad short for shoulder up portraits. I'm only a hand held shooter,so no the 45-85 is not too heavy. It's certainly heavier than the 150, but weight has never been an issue for my style of shooting.

It's a dual-function lens the way I see it; softer wide open for portraiture, but it sharpens up immensely at f/5.6 and again at f/8, putting it on par with the 120mm macro even. It's also fairly small and light, never discount the importance of size.

I have those two lenses too and wouldn't trade them for a zoom, or at least not anytime soon, since Pentax is revamping their zoom lineup with both a 45-85mm and 80-160mm f/4.5 in the near future, and they will feature stabilization (SR) as well. If the new 28-45 is anything to go by, they should be monstrously sharp and the SR will help them be practical for handheld use and/or low light even with an f/4.5 aperture... although I'm guessing they will feature a premium price to match.

I purchased mine in early 2015 from a US seller, 2015stingray on eBay. I use it primarily for portraits and could not be happier. I am NOT a pixel peeper, but a full time commercial shooter. I do have colleagues who ARE peepers as they deal in product photography as a profession. They have been astounded by the quality of the three lenses I have purchased used. My most used for work is the FA 45-85 since I do a lot of full body publicity work and that focal length is great. I also have the FA 80-160.

I highly recommend the FA 150 f2.8

The attached image of "Eliza" in white was shot with the 150 at 2.8 for My Fair Lady publicity.
The attached image of her 'pre transformation' was shot with the FA 45-85 at 70mm f8.0
No post processing with either. Only color balance, lens correction in LR.

I paid $590.00 for the 150mm in early 2015
$520.00 in late 2014 for the FA 45-85 Seller was in Japan and was sanpoucamera

I also have all the lenses discussed here. Each lens has its own usage for me. Just acquired a used 45-85 and find it a great hand held addition to my kit. That said few current lenses can beat the 55/2.8. Its added benefit for me is the weather sealing and more modern design. Its images are crisp. If I have one keeper it is the 55/2.8.

The 45-85 and 80-160 work well together. It has been said that both lenses display weaker IQ at the high ends of their respective ranges. As such, initially that is why I got the 150/2.8, but once in hand I have been taken with its smallish design, light weight and excellent sharpness. It seems about half the weight of the 45-85 and no higher.

The zooms are not as small as the primes, but where you must have zooms in place of stepping forward or back a few feet, they can come in handy. Most seem to be priced around $500-$600 shipped from Japan.

Lovely images.
