I'm wondering if anyone has done a comparison between these two lenses for night photography (particularly Milky Way images).

1) How much coma is apparent in the corners?
2) How sharp are these lenses compared wide open?

I have the 25mm D FA, but was considering selling it for the 28-45 since its more versatile. I don't think I'd keep both lenses.

I have not used it at night, but I did a comparison of the 25 VS the 28-45 and the zoom won hands down being sharper at every aperture and also corners on the 25 are not good at any aperture.

If it's not too much of a burden, but could you also take shots with the lens hand-held with SR besides tripod? There are almost no, if any, Raw photos available for this lens, which I find surprising considering the price. If I were to drop that kind of cash on a lens, I'd like to at least know what it's capable of.

In all seriousness, someone should send a memo to Pentax to put at least 10 good looking Raws on the page for each lens showing them off in different scenarios.

I have not tried the 28-45 lens . I own the DA 25mm coupled with the 645Z. Here is one example of a Astro Shot using the 25mm lens. Coming from the A35mm the 25mm has allot less Coma. https://500px.com/photo/90397909/chasing-stars-by-thomas-brown?from=user_library

I'd go for the 25mm if you really need the 25mm. If the 28-45 is not wide enough. Also, with the japanese version of the 25mm, you have the option to go for full 645 from time to time if even 25mm und the 645D/Z is not wide enough - by using film.

The 28-45mm is also more likely to have problems with flare, and vignetting at wider apertures.

Believe me, the zoom is sharper at any aperture specially on the edges. I tested them side by side.
