ditto to what he said. my only addition, a tri-pod or a monopod with a lens support.

I have only used the FA* 300mm F4 but it is one of my favorite 645 lenses. Just took this today, wide open at F4. Usually I stop it down, but for this shot I wanted shallow DOF.

Have you tried converting this image to black & white? I usually find shallow DOF images look better in b&w.

I tried it in B&W and it looked fine, but I liked the orange color in the boat so I went with the color version.

Great shot. With the usual Swiss spirit of compromise, it might look good with a black and white conversion and then color- popping the boat. Or maybe a bit clichéd? I dunno. Anyway, nice shot and I am thinking seriously about the 5.6

The FA645f4.0 is a superb but heavy lens, most of the time the f5.6 is more practical. It is lighter and has a shorter minimal focal distance. If you stop down sharpness is well usable.
On a tripod or wide open I use the f4.

just a thought, if you shoot sun light or light cloud cover, consider the 400mm fa f5.6. it's light sharp, and if you can stand manual focus, works well with both the 1.4 and 2.0 teleconverters.

I am curious as to who has used the different 645 300mm lenses out there. 300 f/4 manual, 300 f/4 autofocus and the 300 mm f/5.6
Opinions would be greatly appreciated.

Dan
great shoot..

I wanted a longer FL so decided to get the FA 300/5.6 for tripod use. Also got the 1.4 extender, but not used extender as yet. I like to use a tripod collar on the 300/5.6 even though it is not heavy by any means.
