645Z and wireless flash set up for macro

I am wanting to build a flash set up for macro photography for my 645Z, I want to go wireless (or not) but am unsure as I new to pentax. I have tried with a Yongnuo Yn-622N set up meaning both Yongnuo trigger and flash heads but they only seemed to fire very randomly, perhaps 2 out of every 10 shots and sometimes not all. I know pentax have flash heads available ect but I want to make sure what I choose is compatible for the the 645Z.

Any info on successful setups would be great, TIA

I believe the maximum sync speed is 1/125 seconds and PTTL is not supported with a 3rd party flash.

???? Both Sigma and Metz make 3rd party PTTL flashes for Pentax. All their flashes will work as well on the 645Z as they do on the K-3/K-5/Q etc. Several Metz and Sigma flash models fully support all the wireless Pentax flash protocols.

Speaking of wireless macro flash, the Metz mecablitz 15 MS-1 ring flash provides wireless macro flash that also supports PTTL.

Can't speak for the 645Z, but I am using two Pentax 360 MkII units, one connected via cable (original Pentax cable plus original hotshot adapter plus flash shoe adapter) to the 645D's hot shoe and the second unit is triggered wirelessly as a slave. I assume it will work on the 645Z as well.

Regards,
Udo

Try reducing the sync speed to 1/100th Sec, I had a similar problem with some wireless triggers on the Z and this resolved the issue, did the same on my K5 iis and by coming down to 1/160th from 1/200th also cured the problem.

The MS-1 works OK with camera in manual exposure mode. To use PTTL you have to put a PTTL master such as the AF 540 FGZ II on the camera. This is a pain and does not actually work very well. I simply use an AF160FC ring flash with diffusion. You are limited to 1/125 though.
