Another 645z review

Apologies if this has been shared already, but I was catching up on LuLa and saw a link to this 645Z review by Chris Giles in which he states, "The Pentax 645z camera has, hand on heart, the best image quality I have ever seen on any format, with any sensor, ever..."

Nice!

I'd consider becoming a wedding photographer just to cost-justify one of those cameras....

It does seem that Pentax is certainly back on top of the heap with this camera.

But when I read these reviews I do have to chuckle once in a while. Pentax has provided these people with one of the best equipped medium format cameras for the field. But the first thing everyone whines about is that it doesn't tether to their computer for studio photography or the flash synch is too slow.

Ugghhh. Been trying to be patient and save rather than borrow for a Z. I'm 3/4 of the way there and just about out of patience. Got a big driving trip across British Columbia in a few months and I WILL have one of these with me.

I am certainly tempted, especially when I read the reviews. Sometimes it seems to take all of my willpower to keep me from jumping to BHPhoto and pressing the buy button.

But then I pull my Pentax 645 or 645Nii out of the camera bag, attach my 645 A 35, load up some Velvia, and head for the mountains. Looking at my results on the lightbox, or through a nice projector, quickly erases any desire for the 645Z.

The 645 can usually be had in very nice shape, with lens, for less than $400. Even adding in the price of a scanner leaves a huge price differential.

Thanks a lot indeed for sharing these two 645Z reviews, Mike. This is certainly uplifting stuff for any Pentax shooter and inspiring photography too!

Great review

Wonder where if it comes out, will the FF Pentax DSLR compete with this wonderful looking machine.

The review was very informative. The camera is amazing at pulling shadow detail! Thanks for putting so much effort into the review.

By the way, browsing your website leaves me gobsmacked. Stunning work Chris.

Quite the review. I don't shoot weddings, nor do I plan to, but I very much enjoy seeing the work of a master. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

Chris, fantastic review! I wish I had come across this a month ago when I was trying to get my Elinchrom strobes and Nikon speed lights to play nice via Pocket Wizards on my 645z. Thorough real world reviews is something that slightly lacking online with regards to this camera.

With trial and error I finally found a review of the Cactus V6's that has allowed me to mix and match light sources and be able to control output manually on both from the camera position.

Love your work man. Truly stunning in a "in the moment" kind of way.

Thanks again for the thorough review!
