If I had the 90mm Macro I'd have used it more like the 85L I had in my Canon system, as a low-light portrait lens, but with close focus capabilities. The 85L had a fairly distant .95m close focus, and went into blur overdrive if you put extension rings on (nothing would be sharp anywhere... which was interesting in it's own way), so having 1:2 macro I see as a convenience rather than the purpose of this lens.

I have been using the 645Z commercially now since December. No issues whatsoever with the hardware. Brilliant piece of engineering.

I really wish I could sit down with Pentax and have a little chat about their development direction....
Amen to that

Been using mine since November with no problems. People generally don't talk about products they are happy with except for some time immediately after buying it. Forums usually exist specifically so that you can troubleshoot with other users, so there will always be a level of bias.

I agree with Nick, the 90 was unnecessary. It's too heavy, the wrong focal length and the OS is good for handholding but when you need it say from 1/20th to 1/100 the Z suffers from shutter shock.

It should have been an OS 120mm f/4 weather sealed. I often find it to be too short, so 120 would have been better. And who shoots macro on a 645 system at f/2.8???? Sure it means that when you are at f/5.6 you are 2 stops down and quality will be good, but if it was f/4 it would be just as good. DOF at 90mm f2.8 is sooooo shallow on 645 at close distance that it's barely usable.

I bought it just because I wanted the best lens but now I am thinking of selling it for the 120 FA or even the new zoom when it comes out.

I'll hang on to it, but otherwise I completely agree with Nick and 2351HD. It'll be good for a few situations requiring me to do some reproductions, but otherwise it's overengineered for most situations. I also won't run around with a ringflash all day just to use the 90, and ringflash light introduces its own complexities. Now if they came up with an additional 150 or 180 macro just to make us feel better...
