Pentax DA25mm Barrel movement

I have noticed my DA25mm lens has become somewhat sloppy and has unwanted play in the Barrel of the lens. I initially noticed it in live view whilst checking critical focus at 100% zoom, the frame was jumping all over the place just from touching the lens let alone focusing. I am surprised that such a expensive /solid lens can do this on its own? The Lens itself is always stored in a Pelican Hard Case and is looked after more than anything else I own. Has any one encounted this within the 645 lens range?

Here is a video of the slight movement Im talking about.

I have sent it off to the Supplier/servicer for analysis, initially I asked for a replacement but was informed that the DA25mm in now Discontinued.

For the price, the lens should return the love.

There seemed to have been quite a few people with faults/complaints and issues with the 25. Perhaps it was a faulted design and that's why they decided to cut it.

I bought the 28-45 due to the fact that when I need wider than 22mm eq, I would need at least 15-16mm so I use another camera for that work.

Yeah, I opted for the 25mm over the 28-45 purely for its wide capabilities. My other lenses cover roughly what the new wide zoom does. I have come into a few situations where even the 25mm is not wide enough for some creative visions. Just curious what you wide angle "other Camera" system is?

looks like some internal screws have worked themselves loose and that puppy is about to fall apart. I would get it in for service before something this happens to you:

happened to my almost brand new FA77 and pieces spontaneously fell on the ground without warning. be careful.

Thomas,
I sell and install high end home cinema and need to take images of the rooms, so I use either a small Sony Nex6 and 10mm lens or a Canon 6D plus 14mm lens.
I do not shoot too much landscape under the 22mm eq of the zoom, but sometimes I wish I did have the 25mm purely for those odd shots.

I had a second hand one that did exactly that. It ended up being replaced with a brand new lens by Pentax.

My DA 25mm literally fell apart in my hands while on a shoot last year. A couple of days before I had noticed some play in the barrel segments, exactly as shown in your video, Thomas. It came out of nowhere and within 48 hours the lens was in pieces. I sent it in and it was repaired, but it took 10 weeks to return to my hands.

thomas, my understanding was the thread lock was inadequately applied and these three screws worked loose (within 3-4 monts of use). I sent it to CRIS and they repaired it and it has been fine since.

I got a pretty high threshold but that is unacceptable for a premium lens!

Makes me extremely concerned about the used copy I just purchased : /

So, are they going to fix it and return?
