Pentax 75mm vs 90mm?

I am looking at renting the Pentax 645z for a few days and trying to decide which lenses to get. I have a few questions regarding this rental.

#1 I have a pentax 67 and a 105mm 2.2 will the 105mm work on the 645? Or will I need an adapter because it a different format?

#2 I am looking at the newer 90mm ED AW lense and was wondering what the difference (if any) of that and the 75mm 2.8 other than the obvious focal lense and leaf shutter.

#3 Similar question to #1 but will the 75mm AL work for the 645z?

Thanks in advance!

1. You'll need a 67 to 645 adapter. They typically aren't cheap (I bought mine for £30, but prices are usually nearer the £130+ mark)

2. Biggest difference? About £3000. . The 90mm is also weather sealed, has newer coatings, has SDM, and does macro. if the 90mm isn't noticeably better than the 75, I'd be truly shocked!

3. I'm assuming you are talking about the FA75 f2.8 for the 645 format? (And not the 67 version?). The 67 version is better, but requires an adapter to work on the 645 mount. The 645 version is a reasonable budget lens (so far as such a thing exists in medium format), but it will work on the 645 mount (as will all older 645 lenses)

Cool thanks! I forgot to ask this as well. I know the Pentax 645z files don't work on Capture one but if I convert the files to dng will it work?

Rent the 90mm so you can see the best possible IQ this camera makes. I love the 67 105 and 75AL. The 645 75mm is great because it is so compact.

I got my 67 to 645 adapter from B&H Photo for $80 (Fotodiox). Probably cheaper than renting a lens.

The lenses for the 645D and Z are going to be a bit better than the film era lenses, not because they were designed for digital but because they are more recent designs. Pentax has been improving their lenses ever since the 6x7 came out in 1969. That is why the most recent designs for the 67 work well on the D/Z. The latest 55mm, 200mm, 165LS, 75AL, 55-100 & 90-180 zooms, 300 EDIF and 400 EDIF are examples.

when you are starting with fantastic 645 and 67 lenses, a bit better isn't a big deal.
