Diopter for 67

Question about the 67 finder. I'm a tad near sighted(need glasses for far off) and with Nikon I have to get a +0.5 diopter for correct vision when focusing due to their finders actually being a -1 from what I read. That diopter does work as I swapped out the original with it and focusing is much better. My prescription is +1.25 minus the 1 for their finder puts what I need at +.25 but since those aren't made, the +0.5 works great.

Having said that, I'm assuming Pentax's finders are not like Nikon with the -1 finder so, another assumption is I can just try and find a +1 or +1.25 diopter for the 67. Is that a true assumption?

The Pentax 6x7 & 67 metered/non-metered prisms have a -1 diopter.

You can get correction lenses for the 6x7/67 prisms in:

+2, +1, -1, -2, -3, -4, -5

That's the same way Nikon has theirs numbered...at -1. However, they "are not marked for their actual values, but actual values minus one, ie :

+1 is marked as 0
+1.5 is marked as 0.5
+2 is marked as +1
etc."

That info from Sover Wong, THE man when it comes to the Nikon F2. Is Pentax the same way, actual values minus the 1?

If you use a correction lenses on the 6x7 or 67 you add them to the existing prisms viewfinder eyepiece. So my guess is that the value on the correction lens is with the -1 of the prism combined.

Nikon and Pentax seem to have the same viewfinder diopter, i.e., -1. I ordered a +0.5 for my F2A and it worked out great. From what I recall reading somewhere, a Nikon F100 diopter will fit the Pentax 6x7, 67 series perfectly. Perhaps I need to go that route since even finding a +0.5 diopter by Pentax would be difficult and the closest thing would be a +1 which may prove to be a bit strong.

Re the F100 dioptric correction lens interchangeability with Pentax; well, maybe not. I tried it, and found it a smidgeon too loose, so returned it. I had a custom dioptric lens fashioned by my optometrist matched to my wonky eye.The biggest problem at the optometrist was getting him to put the BBB (Big Black Beastie) down: "God! I've never seen such a camera as big as that before...!"

I venture to say that's what the bad guy in "Dirty Harry" would have said had he seen one..."My, that's a big one".
