Problems with 645n and 75mm

I just bought the Pentax 645N with the FA 750mm f/2.8. When I put new batteries in it (rechargeable) I looked through the viewfinder and did not see any aperture reading showing up in the viewfinder, no exposure bar, the autofocus doesn't seem to be working, the shutter speed is that at constant 1000 in the viewfinder, and when in manual I get no focus confirmation. Does anybody have any ideas? Did I get a dud? Thanks in advance.

You need to load film in the camera and advance it to frame number one
Then it should come to life

Rechargeables are not a good idea. They generally are only 1.25 volts per cell and that leaves the camera at the edge of no power. .

There are imho no problems with rechargeables. I always use them. . The "1000 F - - -" in the viewfinder is caused by the lack of film . Load a roll an wind it to frame 1

OP, maybe I haven't understood what you are saying but all I can say is that in my 645n everything shows up in the viewfinder in the same way it does with a film. I have never seen 1000F--- in the viewfinder when there has been no film in the insert.

I have no idea what causes this and it may be that the rechargeable batteries have not re-charged. Are you saying that previously there was no problem when normal alkaline batteries were in it?

Well, I put film in it and it works fine...

Another guy with a 645 (non-n version) said that his did the same thing.

I just bought the camera and I've only used rechargeable batteries.
