Proper Diopters

Another question concerning the 6x7. I've read that the prism of this camera is -1. I've also read that the diopters for the Nikon F100 will fit the Pentax properly. However, I've also read that the Nikon F2HP will fit. does anyone know for sure which of these will fit without falling out due to being too small or not enough threads?

IIRC all Pentax diopters are corrected to -1 to give more apparent depth to the focusing chamber. Before my cataract surgery my prescription called for + 1.25 in my right eye and a +2 SMC Correction Lens Adapter was necessary in all fixed diopter cameras (the adjustable diopter cameras are now 'flat' after surgery). For the larger 'M' frame cameras I've successfully used Nikon SB100 adapters, but they're very tight.

I know that doesn't specifically help with your question but I thought it might be good general information

I know the diopter I need as it's the same for the Nikon which also has a -1 prism. I use a +.5 diopter and it works fine. I just wasn't sure which Nikon diopter for what camera would work with the 6x7.

If gofour3 doesn't ping in here soon PM him directly. Phil knows everything about film cameras of that era.

Here is a good link on options for the P6x7 diopter:

Diopter correction, a note. - Photo.net Medium Format Forum

My guess is a custom made one from an eye glass store would be the best, I believe another forum member had one made and is very happy. (Silent Street)

As for Nikon some may or may not fit, if you are going that route.

Phil.

Meantime until I can get to the optometrist I ordered a +0.5 for the F100 from B&H for $15 as that will be perfect. I took the one off the Nikon and put it up at the viewfinder and things were much sharper that without it. If it doesn't work for some reason I'm not out much.

I can now confirm that the F100 Nikon diopter will fit the 6x7. Moreover, it has the nice rubber ring around it as not to scratch your glasses. I can see so much better to focus now than before. It doesn't have as many threads as the standard eyepiece but I don't think there's any fear of it coming off. I'm pretty happy about it. I had to buy the +0.5 diopter as that one works perfectly for my vision(near sighted.)
