And the 300/4*. One at 300mm, and one at 420mm, in combination with the 1.4x converter. Both handheld, too, took these shots just before the could was hiding the mountain again. Both 100%, 645D.
And the full pictures, too.

672, you travelled to Malta with your 400mm ?
Your picture was taken handheld ?

Donesteban, your combination seems to give really nice results too.

Fa 400mm

I posted pics from the FA400mm 5.6. I apologize if the conversation was about the 300mm 5.6 which I have no experience with, I should have read the thread from the beginning.

The image was shot in Malta on a Z at f14 at 1/500 on a gitzo 3541xls with an acratech head. Moderate Windy day as you can see from the surf. I probably left the lens hood off to reduce buffeting. Mirror lock up.

I did some tests last night and tend to agree that less than 1.3 seconds and more than 1/200 seems to be a problematic range. Do others experience this on the Z with lenses in the 300-400 range?

Well, my experience is using the 645D. The A 300/4* works well at any time on my tripod. Only when using the converter and going to critical shutter times, then MUP and the 2s self timer is a must. I have a Gitzo series 3 systematic tripod, whoch is large enough that I don't have to use the center culumn hiher than minimum postition in more than 90% of the cases. In combination with the 2x converter (600mm!), critical shutter times and wind weather dosn't really work, guess would have to get a series 5 for that. But this combination is crital anyawy, good image quality can only be achieved from f/6.7 to 8 on the lens. Nothing elese. I normally use the 300/4 only in combination with th1.4x converter, not the 2x.

My 645 FA 300/5.6 is sharper than A* 300/4 on 645 D.
