645 35mm Shipping

I received notice from Ricoh that my preorder of the new HD Pentax-D FA 645 35mm F3.5 AL [IF] is ready to ship. I travelled recently with the 645Z and the 28-45 zoom to photograph water falls in Oregon. The image quality was great with the 28-45 and yet the smaller size of the 35mm would have made it an easier hike along on the trails.

If someone buys me a 645 and a lens, I'll go hiking with it

Great photos!

It's weather sealed. I'd go hiking with it. Although truthfully, I'd probably whine about the weight.

I picked mine up this afternoon. Sold my FA35 and FA45. Doubled my money on the FA45.

Haven't you got a bunch of teenage kids? One to carry the camera, one for the lenses, one for the tripod...

I'll do it for him, and run off with all the gear...

I often conscript a teenager in to pack muling my gear around. They try to demand extortionist rates.

How do you find the new 35, it is better than the A35? How about field curvature like the old FA35 had?
Thanks

Works for me! But hiking still isn't my passion. I love Disney though. There's great stuff to photograph all the time. And it might be hot, but the hiking isn't treacherous.

Just processed some shots straight from the shop. First bit of blue sky I have seen since I was in El Salvador. Am flying to Budapest tomorrow and will try to give it a good workout there. I didn't have the A 35, only the FA 35, and I'll blush and say I didn't really notice field curvature, and I'm not any kind of technical wizard when it comes to lenses, I just feel for a shot and if it feels good I like it. I haven't shot it into the light yet, so don't know how it deals with flare. The FA35 was one that showed up issues with flare, but it was a lens I like and this one is at least as sharp. They have apparently added more aspherical elements to this lens as well as new coatings, though it looks and feels very similar to the old one. It is satin black all over including on the mount.

Here are some I have quickly processed: they are all handheld with SS of between 1/50 and 1/8 the first is 1/50 the others much slower:

Lovely. I am thinking of getting this lens as my walk-around lens on the Z for my trip to France next year. Still going to take the 28-45, but this will make the tourist shots that much better due to the weight.

It will be perfect for that. Just waiting for an update to LR to have a correct lens profile...
