Field test with brand new Pentax DA 35

In the Swedish mountains with brand new Pentax DFA 35. Just love it, so sharp and free from flare.

Nice
How does it compare to the older FA35 or A35?

f2.4, or f2.8 macro?

Oh ok, I'm a muppet. This is the medium format forum!
In which case, yes, how is it?

No experience FA35, but it is sharper than the A35 and better contrast. Good as DA28-45. This is 100% crop of the previous picture in a critical area.

Interesting. Maybe Pentax are onto a good thing here by re-working the old FA lenses.

Exciting times.

At least some have shipped, still wanting for mine. Nice to hear it was worth the money, thanks.

Sven did you update the 645Z to the latest firmware? As the exif data is showing Lens ID: Unknown.

Just done that, but the published images were made before. Now we just wait for updated profile in Lightroom.

Indeed. At the moment, I am manually selecting the old FA 35 profile. LR automatically picks the 28 - 45 when you click on Pentax...

So what's the verdict from those who have had it for a few days?

It is worth picking up? How does it compare to the 28-45?

I just picked up this lens and can confirm that its corner-to-corner sharpness is indeed superior to the A and FA versions! Definitely worth trading up.

I only wish that Pentax would produce a similar-sized 30mm lens to sit between the huge 28-45mm and the 35mm.

What they should have done is released a DFA 28mm f4 and a DFA 45mm f3.5 rather than the 28-45.

I have the 28-45 and while it's truly lovely, 2 smaller primes would have been great.

Sarnian, good news on the new 35mm sharpness, thanks for reporting.

What they need is a 21 f/4, 28 f/4 45 f/4. I would be a very happy bunny then. No need for SR, but weather sealing would be fantastic...The 45 would probably end up almost permanently on my camera...

Yet Pentax UK's online store don't have any in stock! bit odd. I got mine from Camera Centre Cardiff. Preordered it from them in November...
