75mm LS for 645

I'm looking at possibly getting the 75mm leaf shutter lens this year to my 645n kit, but had a question on usage.

Everything I've read says to connect the sync cable from the lens to the adapter for the flash fitted into the camera's hot shoe. Will it still work if I run the sync cable to an off-camera flash, or does the adapter need to be fitted into the hot shoe?

Also, does anyone have experience using this with a flash triggering system such as Pocketwizard?

I have the 135mm LS with the 645Z camera, connected to Skyport Speed. The lens connected directly to the receiver with dedicated cable by Elinchrom. Working great!

Awesome! It's surprisingly hard finding direct information online about LS lenses.

My LS lenses came with their own instructions - which helped. Regardless, I've used my 75LS in a studio setup with the strobes connected to the lens. Works great.

i have this lens with my 645d, the problem is that the lens can cope with shutter , every frame is black...same for 75 ls. i think is a problem of the shutter mechanism of camera cause is a bit rough sound when close

Hi all - sorry for the change in user name - login issues!

I think I have solved this by placing some tape over the lens contacts so the camera goes into dumb mode. I then put camera into manual, set a shutter speed of 1/8 sec as per what is meant to happen in LS mode and then chose the aperture and leaf shutter speed on the lens. And presto - all works great.

A cheap fix and one that doesn't really change work flow too much.

I use a 135 LS which should work the same. I have used it directly connected to a off camera flash or with a set if Quantum radio slaves. I have had problems with the lens syncing with less than brand new PC cords. Any wear in the connector starts missed syncs. But get a new cable and I'm in businessagain.

If you mount the flash on the hot shoe, the flash will be triggered when the focal plane shutter opens. At that point, the leaf shutter is closed so you get no flash. Just connect the flash to the PC sync connection on the lens and you will be fine. Radios are not all created equal. Some are incapable of syncing at high speeds. If you are using a radio, you will need to test it. Direct connection with a cord should sync to 1/500th.

I think I got both of mine from the marketplace here. I got a Hartblei 45 shift lens here, and I think a my 200, too. Maybe my 80-160? One guy I bought from is poster Yuri Huta. Very nice guy, lives in my area. Others were WJJ3, Hinman, bdery, vincent, mollini, Pixel 8.

So, anyway, this place has been a drop dead bonanza for me. But I kinda got going before the Z hit the streets...

Edit: Yeah, got both the 75 and the 135 here. Also got a 67 55, and adapter for that, and a 540fgzII, and a 28mm f3.5 K for my A7R. The marketplace here is really good. It pays to check it.

I buy from KEH, B&H, eBay or wherever I find a lens I'm interested in. I just picked up my "new to me" FA45-85 from a forum user on ebay. My A45, A75, & A150 came from either B&H or KEH.

Most of the Pentax 645 lenses seller on E-bay from Japan. I have both two or three lenses from them. They are trustworthy peoples! There prices are not to low, but no any other alternative.

I have bought all mine from eBay or Amazon sellers from Japan, except for one from Adorama and a 2x tc from KEH.
