certainly not the case in the UK. Someone robs me in the street and they are looking at a max of 3 months gaol. Rob me with with a gun in their possession and fire it and they are looking at life. Our criminals are virtually unknown to carry guns.
So someone robs you with a knife or a bat and they are looking at 3 months I like those odds, maybe I should look at a career change.

Jason Lanier talks about this in his switch from Nikon to Sony mirrorless in the first few mins of this video. Basically he liked that the Sony doesn't scream "pro camera" like a DSLR does.

What a great video I am going to look really hard at Sony, Canikon was never on my list but the Sony hmmmmm....

to pawn
Not so much to pawn. When I lost mine I went to every Pawn Shop In Town with my list. Each broker said that they dont get much of that kind ot Gear any more and wont buy it. The reason we figured was that most of Us buy and sell through sites like this , ebay etc and the Police and Pawn shops are much more capable of tracking stolen Equipment and Pawn shops dont want to get stuck with hot goods because of computers. So unfortunately most of our stolen gear ends up in a land fill or the odd unscuplious photographer.

Wrong. On so many levels. Vast majority of UK police are still unarmed.
On the average as per FBI UCR data over a 20 year period, about 1600 people a year are murdered by knives in the U.S. and about 675 by hands/feet, and about 425 with blunt objects compared to about 300 by rifles of all types. To down play bats etc. as not lethal force is very naive.

I find it interesting how political this became so quickly.. and there seem to be two completely different views with two different types of thinking.. but no one is being convinced from either side of the opposing views. It is just a hamster wheel.. round and round we go..

True, but to appreciate the scale of the problem there were more than 30,000 firearms deaths in 2013, right?

"I suggest it was Colonel Mustard, in the Study, with a lead pipe." Most of us know from police procedurals like Law & Order that the victim sometimes dies due to "blunt force trauma".

I bought my yellow K-01 because the Internet Photography Experts called it a "Fisher-Price" camera, so no thief would want it!

2/3 of that number is suicides. And that is only approximately half of the suicides which is a completely different discussion. In fact, 67% of murders on the average occur by all types of firearms with the majority belonging to gang activity etc. The FBI UCR report has a breakdown of murders during robberies.

This is for 2005 which was the first one I ran into. The first number is total murders by type of theft and second the number of those by firearms.

Robbery 921, 698 (of these 83 were with knives, 54 blunt objects and 44 hands)
Burglary 88, 51
Larceny-theft 12, 8
Motor vehicle theft 31, 15

Edit: Here is an FBI-UCR table for 2010 through 2014 for all murders and methods.

It hasn't gone political. It is about whether or not you will or will not defend yourself if you have to during a robbery attempt to this point. Situational awareness goes a long way regardless of ones disposition in that regard.

Yes. Around 60% suicide, 35% murder, the remaining 5% by accident and police.

I find it difficult to believe you don't see the pro gun supporters debating against the anti gun supporters filled in this thread. 'Defense' doesn't mean 'gun.' However, the dialog, in this thread, has often been pro gun vs anti gun in relation to laws and violence at a national level.

Yep. We don't/didn't need it to become a pro-gun/anti-gun thread. I live in Australia, I don't have a gun (by choice) but I have no objection others having them for sport or pleasure. I like the feel of a good knife, too.
