645z/d Extended Warranty options?

Hi there,

What are some recommendations for extended warranties for a 645z/d? I see that B&H offers Square Trade and my concern was who does the repair. From what I understand as of right now, only Pentax repairs them in Japan with a usual 10 weeks turn around. Does square trade send them to Japan as well or do they have knowledge sources in the US for the 645z. My main concern is if the shutter goes out. And if anyone has other recommendations of other warranty services that people have had good experiences with with their 645z/d, please share.

Pentax Japan is really the only place that services the 645Z, so im guessing the Square Trade would send it off. And B&H used to offer the Pentax Extended warrenty, but dont see it on their site, although Adorama still has it. Pentax 645Z Advantage Platinum Program RICOHPENTAXADV

If the extended warranty is ~ $2000 for 3 years, how expensive is a typical repair?

In the US, there are/were two tiers of the Pentax Advantage service plan: gold (for around $800) and platinum (for $2000). I believe the platinum one also included free inspections.

It looks like online info about these has been pulled for the most part, so I would contact Ricoh to see how to obtain them. It might be more cost-effective to get third-party drops and spills coverage, though. Even on the 645Z, I wouldn't expect repairs to be overly costly.
