Came across this engraving on the winder of a 6x7. Has anyone seen one like this before and does anyone know what the characters mean?

It's Japanese and translates to "Sample". 見本品 pronounced, mihonhin.

OK, I guess like the spotmatics engraved "store demonstrator" in the US.
