645D its been a long time coming

I have coveted Digital Medium Format for the past 6 years. I shoot a lot of film and my digital camera is a Sony a99. I rented an a7rii last weekend with the hope that I would love it and i could use my Sony A-mount lenses on it. Once I had the camera in my hands it just did not feel like the camera for me. A couple years ago I rented a 645D for a shoot. I loved it and I have been in love with it ever since. When the Z came out I thought I would save my pennies up and purchase one. Prices on the D are now close to the prices on the Sony A7rii. I looked on EBAY and the lowest price was $2800.00 (Japan only) and they went as high as $4700.00. I looked at adorama for a used one with no luck and the new ones were on back order. Then I looked at B&H and found a brand new D for $3373.00. Well I bit the bullet and thought why save a few hundred on used when I can get a new one with warranty. My new 645D is on the way and I am very happy. I have three 67 lenses so I will slap an adaptor on and get shooting this weekend. I have a shoot Saturday and will use the new 645D.

My 645D plans sort of got buried when they put Pixel Shift on the k-1. But let me know how it works out. I still have a couple 645 A lenses, so I could always change my mind again.

The K1 price being well under what I thought it was might have help bury the 645D for me. I thought the K1 would have starting $2500-$3000 and priced close to the 645D. Im still hoping the 645D falls under $3k new at some point now that the K1 has arrived.

I had a 645D for a short time before my 645Z. I'm constantly resisiting the urge to buy another D that should tell you how I feel about the D!

Congrats bigdaddyg! The 645D is a wonderful tool with terrific files, especially close to base ISO. I reluctantly sold mine to upgrade to the Z but the D is a great value at current prices. I printed at 54" wide using classic manual focus Pentax 645 lenses on the D and the prints have that essential quality of prints from 4x5 film.

I think you will enjoy your 67 glass on the 645D. I have the Pentax 55/105/200 67 lenses and the results are extremely pleasing.

Enjoy!

^^Yep. If the 645D goes much lower...I might have to get one "just because".

Congratulations! That is about what I paid for a new D a few months ago. I don't regret it!

All I can say is wow. Why did I wait so long to buy this camera. I have no regrets. I love the images this produces.

OP - I sent you a like with some comments, forgetting to add that I also have the 105 f2.4 in addition to the SMC versions of the P67 55, 75 and 200.
I went to Europe (UK) recently for a family reunion and carried my 645D with P645 A35, A75, and the SMC 55 f4 and 200 f4 from the 67.

I loved using all of the lenses. Some preliminary posts are on my Flickr account, grouped by album name. My favourite lens from all that I have is the 55 f4 SMC. The only AF lens I have for the 645D is the stellar FA 45-85. I got mine for a sub US$500 price and it was basically new-in-box. Apart from my own eyesight limitations giving challenges with say the A35 focussing, I love the camera and the results I get.
A sample album is here: https://flic.kr/s/aHskvyW75o

I'm sure that you will love the 645D. I liked mine (bought 2nd hand) as soon as I used it. It went against the smaller/lighter grain for me. I hardly ever use my Sony A7R now (too many fiddly small buttons). The 645D IQ is much superior, within the low ISO limitations of a CCD sensor.

Thanks for the info everyone. I am still getting used to the camera. IQ is stunning. I have done a few shoots with it since I received the camera. I did a photo shoot this past weekend and the only thing I have to get used to is waiting for the image to show up on the rear display. I was trying to show the client and the hour glass was up for a few seconds. However I also shoot film and I can't show a preview on my medium format film cameras. I am going to see how it does with tethering today. I have a shoot this evening in the studio for a local musician and hope to get my tethering working in Lightroom with the DNA software. If anyone has any experience with this please let me know. This is the best camera I ever owned and I plan to keep it for a long time. I may start putting money away for the next generation 645Z+ or whatever, but that will be a couple years down the road. It is hard to believe that a 5 year old camera beats everyting at its current price range for what I do. Since I shoot studio work and landscape. It is perfect....
