Cool, so hows testing going on either of the new 645 zoom lenses on the roadmap?

RE: 645 lenses, and 645x: I surmise (pure speculation, but I think it makes sense) Ricoh acquired a substantial inventory of FA645 lenses from Hoya. Part of the reason they can price the bodies the way they do is because the lenses are virtually 100% profit.

If I am correct, 645 users will see lens updates when the inventory is exhausted; a category-busting 645x price will make economic sense if there still are FA645 lenses in inventory.

Got it. Like George Lepp and others in the USA for Canon. Does Pentax/Ricoh have a hired gun for the USA market?

Am I the only guy with a really good 55mm? I see so many people saying it's a average lens but mine is just crazy sharp stopped down, and still not bad at 2.8 - it's easy to get a bit off focus wise with it but when a shot is critically focussed my copy is razor sharp.

It is tough to use the 55mm when the 28-45 is very good and there are 50 MPs to crop to 55mm with. Recently, I have been reprocessing some images from a trip during which I changed from the 28-45 to the 55mm. Staring with the first 55mm image, the 55mm showed better overall sharpness. For the average 645z shooter, not sure if this "better" sharpness would be described as slight or significant. I consider the difference merely 'noticeable' on a 32" 4k monitor as viewed from 18" but then, I am a pixel peeper. Also, there is the convenience of the zoom to consider. Would I give up that zoom for the 55mm (and perhaps my 35mm)? I think I would have to leave the 28-45 at home to avoid the temptation to grab for it just so that I could give the two aforementioned primes some mount time.

I would like to be an ambassador for the western slope. This is the left hand side of Colorado. The not-Denver side. I could do some ambassadoring in Utah as well. I would probably would have more luck pushing a Pentax spotting scope...

reading just above: yes, a hired gun would be good for the west.

The best thing with an FF 645 is that you don't have to pay $5000 for a 1.4kg(!) lens in order to get a decently wide wide-angle.....

After Phase One and Hasselblad - Pentax 645ZII ?

Both Phase One, and Hasselblad have announced their 100M pixel cameras ( using the Sony 100MP sensor), so Pentax should be coming soon!

Both Phase and 'blad have a range of current lens designs that cover full frame 645. That is a significant difference to Pentax's position...

Ooh, can you just imagine it, too - 100 Mp with IBIS and pixel shift.

Our videographer colleagues would tear it apart saying it has a crap codec and only electronic stabilization, though. :-)
