645z power adapter

Hi,

I am visiting Japan right now, and I plan to use this opportunity to purchase some photographic accessaries. One of the target is the power adapter for 645z. However, I found that the model name is different in Japan. The one sold in Japan is K-AC132J. On the other hand, the one sold in US (such as BHphoto) is K-AC132. Does anyone know the difference between the two? Can I just buy the Japanese one? As far as I can tell, all my electronics stuff work equally good in Japan, US, and Taiwan (my country). Thanks.

Cheers,
Wei-Hao

The J variant probably comes with a different plug. Just make sure that the input voltage ratings are the same.

Japan uses power outlets and plugs similar to US ones, but at 100 V and often non-polarized. If the adapter is rated for a compatible voltage range (e.g., 100-120 V), then it will work in the US.

Thanks. Based on the pictures I can find, the Japanese one does have an unpolarized plug. I hope this is the only difference.

So I went ahead and bought it in Japan. The main part of the AC converter has the same model number as the one sold in the US (D-AC120). The plug is unpolarized. It looks like the plug is indeed the only difference between the the US model and the Japan model.

You wouldn't want to be buying one for the UK. About $200 - $250...

The one I bought in Japan is about 70 USD, 30% cheaper than the price in my country.

It's really cheap to buy stuff in Japan, especially when the exchange rate is "right," given that foreign visitors do not need to pay tax.
