Calling people with the Pentax infrared remote

Hello all,

If anyone here has the Pentax infrared remote release, and a 645Z, would you mind doing a little test please? If you set the camera to high speed continuous shooting mode and simply hold the release button (on the IR remote) down, without letting go at all, does the camera fire a long burst of frames or does it require you to let go and re-press the button? Also does the release have a bulb mode? If it does and you activate it while the camera is in high speed continuous shooting mode, does the camera just keep on firing?

Trying to find a way to get the camera to shoot loads of consecutive frames (hundreds in fact) without using a wired release (my socket is broken) and without using the built-in interval shooting mode (it has a min. gap of 2 secs).

All help gratefully received!

Thanks,

Ed

In bulb mode, there's a menu setting that lets you press once to start and press again to stop. (Custom setting: bulb mode, select "type 2")

For burst shooting I believe that you have to keep it held down, so a wired remote would be preferable. The K-1 added a burst remote drive mode that works as you describe

Thanks Adam. The wired option would indeed be preferable if it worked in my case! So it sounds like you're saying that if I hold the button down, it will continuously fire...?

Best,
Ed

I have managed to get hold of one of these devices and established that the answer is even better than I hoped. There's no need to hold the button on the remote down; there's a mode on the camera that, when activated, makes the camera begin continuous shooting with one click and stop with another.

Perfect!

Thanks chaps for your help.
