Never having used mine on the 645Z then I find that the 45-85 is not adequate as you move up to be worthwhile information. However, I have not been disappointed with it on the 645D. I guess I'll just have to stick with the D until Pentax upgrades their lenses.

It is too bad we can't get an adapter for some of the newer Zeiss lenses or the Leica S series.

45-85 Zoom

My 45-85 Zoom performs well at F/11 in the 45-60 mm range on P645Z (but not as good as the 55mm AF) but falls down at longer focal lengths so I switch to the 90mm. I wonder if there is enough sample variation to warrant looking for a sharper 45-85?

My 45-85 performs quite well (sharpness) from f5.6 through f16. I have wondered about sample variation in this lens since reading this thread ; it seems like everyone has mixed results with it. And to be honest, Pentax are known for sample variation in a fair few of their len's, even in their premium line of 645 DA offerings.
