645 and Photokina

So....

Are we likely to see any updates to our 645 system at Photokina? New lens maybe?

There are a couple of roadmapped zooms, yes. Perhaps we'll see those, or at least some protoypes.

Yes a new 45-90mm would be sweet, even a 90-180 too!

Not to rain on the parade....but then I will. I think Pentax is fairly small, now, so this is the year of the K-1. I believe there will at best be a wispy whiff of an "announcement/leak" of lenses or accessories, but very possibly nothing. I'm OK with that. I would far rather have an announcement of a new commitment to support!

I would love to be there - I often end up in Köln a day or two before Photokina - has happened the last 3 occasions. Am due there in the next 10 days and due to be in Asia at the time of the event...

Have to agree with "texandrews", I doubt we will see anything new for the 645 system. Pentax seems to be putting all of it attention towards the K-1, which kinda of sucks for us.

It more than kinda sucks IMO. It is now verging on a dereliction of duty. To launch the Z hoping to draw in pros and advanced amateurs, to then find it exceeds your expectations in terms of sales, only to drop the line (hopefully temporarily) in favour of FF is taking the proverbial.

Well, like I said, Pentax is small. I'm wondering if Pentax is nows too small to properly manage its success stories...?

I wouldn't mind seeing their collaboration with Tamron continue, when it comes to K-1 lenses, perhaps with improved quality control. Tamron's putative 115mm/1.4 (announced for Sony A) seems interesting, and they appear to have a number of excellent 1.8 VR lenses in the pipeline. Perhaps a new 50mm/1.2, a new 300mm, and a new 24mm (all Pentax designs), and Pentax would be back in business, at least for the time being.

A Tamron alliance would allow them to move forward with the 100MP 645 body. Pentax apparently bought an option on those sensors. This would allow them to keep the momentum. They'd need a few more lenses though for the new sensor.

And sods law strikes again. I am in Köln on 19th and part of 20th, busy for most of the 20th...and flying to Munich late afternoon. Photokina starts 20th.
