Any way to know year of manufacture for 645 lens ?

As the title says is there any way / formula to date the year of lens manufacture ? Seems that it is easier to do this with some manufacturers than others e.g it looks like Canon code in serial number easy to decipher

Not that age is necessarily a guide to quality with younger being better (at keast that's what I tell SWMBO ) but I am curious as I do like to know the history of used lenses prior to purchase. And it is not that I wish to throw them a birthday party either

What I have done with my older Pentax gear is to call Pentax, give them all the particulars on the item in question and they will be able to help you. I do this a lot because I am a serious watch collector so many times I will come across a piece that I need to know the date of manufacture, and usually there is no problem getting their assistance. Hope this helps.

It may be a bit harder for medium format lenses, but our serial number database can help get you a general idea
