90mm Macro AF delay ???

Hi guys,
just got the lens, but AF has delay, before it starts. it's about 1/2 sec before it works, then it's quite quick.
can anybody check theirs, if they got the same behaviour, I gotta decide, if I send it back. it's a bit annoying for portraiture, and that's what it's for, in my book.
cheers
Stephan

ok, so that's what we gotta live with apparently. talked to a guy from the german repaircompany that's listed on the Pentax website. he said, yes it's slow, since it's a Macro !
well I don't consider the 120 macro particularly slow for portraits, when used in the non macro area, so it's a bit annoying, that a lens in this league takes longer to focus than all the other lenses, the new 55, 35 and 28-45 included.
but then whatcha gonna do about it ...?
results are stellar, even at 2.8 so it's a keeper
cheers
Stephan

I'd concluded, perhaps wrongly, that the delay was to allow the SR to stabilise.

guess not , as the 28-45 does not behave like that and it doesn't change, when SR is switched off...
bummer

Shame to hear about this. The 120mm macro definitely doesn't suffer from this. Have you tried changing some of the AF settings? Or the AF Mode?

I suspect that the body isn't aware of whether SR is switched on or off so the delay occurs just in case.
