I have a 645Z and a Nikon D600 and I rent a D810 on a really regular basis. My main camera is the 645Z. I photograph products and food. I use the 645Z for the majority of my shoots. I use the D600 or D810 when I do not need large files, and for the occasional event.

I can fit my 645Z in either my Pelican 1510 or my Pelican 1535. It takes up a bit more room than my Nikon kit.

I have both and use them side by side in some situations, especially for fine arts repro/museum exhibits installation photography. The K-1 is invaluable when UWA is required, which I need for interiors and other tight spaces. It is also better for video when I need that, but the Canon 5dmkIV spanks it in terms of usability (files not that much...). Others have spoken to the tele utility. Finally, sometimes the nimbleness/quickness of the K-1 is very handy when documenting work as it happens, which I have to do with installations. I use the 645Z at every practical opportunity, however. Better in low light, and for documenting an artwork's condition for condition/treatment reports, the Z's files can be blown up so far the detail is incredible (but the K-1 is very good). I will say that the lack of good tethering is a problem, and I just had an interesting conversation with a conservator who finds the files from Pentax not as "scientifically friendly" as those from Nikon or Canon. I need to explore that more with her. She is now in a Pentax environment at work and is having some issues.

My local camera store has nearly new 645z I may be able to purchase at a good price. They also have several older 645 lenses. It is very unusual for them to have any Pentax gear. I think they purchased the stock of another store. At what price could a 645z be resold after a few months if I decide it is not for me?
Well, can't speak to the latter part of the comment/question---the new Fuji has so many people breathless. Not me, though, and I'm an old Fuji fan. To me, if you have a real need for DMF, Pentax is the way to go if you're not wealthy----the lenses on the used market are a steal, by and large.

So, I say get both! Remember, with an adapter all of those 645 lenses can be used with the K-1 if needs be. And you can use the K-1 with the Cambo Actus and a Fotodiox Rhinocam (I think...).

Mike would you mind sharing a photo of the 1520 packed with above setup? I've been looking for an option like this.
Here you go:

disclaimer about the foam cutouts - i bought this case&foam from a musician who used it for effects foot pedals. I have a fresh piece of foam waiting to be cut, but for the trip, just used the existing holes to stuff in my gear, so a little sloppy.

I have both Z and K1. I shoot mainly landscspes and the Z is the best tool for thst job until I want a FOV wider or narrower than what I can get with the 28-45 & 55. The K1 is fantastic and works well with th 15-30. Basically the K1 is a more useful general purpose camera and the Z a killer specialist camera that you probably wouldnt want to have as your only system.

I also have both, the K1 is used for wildlife / action and anything that requires a lens over 200mm really, the 645z is used for landscapes, portraits, nudes etc.

Whilst some of the lenses I have for the K1 will also do the job of the 645, its such a lovely camera to work with, the images are outstanding and 3 lenses covers all of the above, a 28 - 45 / 45 -160 / and a 150mm F2.8 for those OOF portraits with minimal DOF.

I may part with some of the K1 lenses particularly the Sigma 85mm F1.4 as its not getting used, also the Samyang 14mm F2.8 might go as well
45-160? I think that's two lenses, the 45-85 and 80-160 unless there's one I never knew about that covers it all.

I use all three formats pretty regularly:

645D for slow photography, usually landscapes on a tripod that I don't have to walk too far for.
K-1 for the best quality I can get if I do need to hike/ride/ski to the location but it's still a photo mission and not just an outing I'm bringing a camera on.
K-3 for action I'm involved in (skiing, mountain biking, climbing) or when the camera might be at risk due to extra-harsh conditions. Also fisheye shots, fast frame rate shooting, macro.

I have a K-3 now, and expect if I added a K-1 and 645 my usage would be as you describe. A K-3 and 645z would be a good combination. The K-1 is too big to replace the K-3, but not quite the IQ of the 645z.

I have the 645Z and have had the K1 and I find that the file quality from the Z can't be compared to the K1. The detail level and quality of the files from the Z are another level above the K1. Its worth carrying the 645Z for the output quality.

I would love to have a play with a 100MP sensor from Phase One, it would be unreal.

I like the idea of a crappy travel zoom for the 645Z!

LOL! Could it be all plastic and not weigh much? Hilarious. But actually, a 45-160 would only be a 3.5x zoom. Just sayin'!

Perfect would be a 45-120mm f/5.6 OS, with good quality elements and correction. How good would that be on a Z.

I recently sold my 645Z. I bought it used and got a pretty good deal. In the meantime, the Fuji GFX 50S came out. When I went to sell the 645Z due to it being too hard to handle with my small hands, I found several listed on my local Craig's List and none of them were moving. I was able to get what I paid for it, but just barely. The pool of buyers for MF is not that large. The Fuji is much smaller and all of its lenses are weather resistant, so it is garnering a lot of interest. I think it has some would be 645Z buyers sitting on the fence waiting to see how soon Fuji delivers on lenses for it, and whether any of the gear will show up on the used market at more affordable prices. From what I have seen locally, used 645Zs are selling for between $3700 and $4500 for the body. If you do decide to sell it at a later date, I would list it here, on Craig's List and Fred Miranda. The latter has a very active market for MF and 645Zs appear to be selling better there.

From what I hear the Fuji is awkward in ergonomic terms
