"Hericoid" Extension Tube

Hello,

I just bought a "Hericoid," Pentax 67 extension tube on Ebay. It hasn't arrived yet but the faded word "Hericoid" is clearly visible in the picture. Is this some rare misspelling of "helicoid," or a knock off? Has anyone seen this before? Thanks.

It's a genuine misprint on a genuine Pentax.

Hericoid...actually that typo makes a lot of sense. There's no "l" sound in Japanese, and "r" is used as an substitute. Most likely a lost-in-translation slip up

The evolution of language is pretty amazing. Some common sounds in one language are completely unknown in another language.

A Japanese friend told me a story of her father worriedly phoning her for language coaching before a work meeting. Poor guy was meeting O'Reilly and O'Leary at the same time.

It's a real thing - I have one myself - and not as rare as you might expect so I think that a whole batch must have been engraved this way.
