Pentax 645 A 35mm F3.5 lens prices

Hey there,

So after recently buying a Pantax 645, I'm looking to buy a Pentax A 35mm F3.5 lens but was wondering what is considered a good/reasonable price?

I found one going for £300....does that sound like a good price or should I be asking for less?
I have looked around on eBay but I know that isn't always the best place to compare prices.

Any input would be massively appreciated!!

Thanks - J

That's fair IMO, if not on the cheaper end of the spectrum assuming the lens is in good shape.

I paid about $600 USD (IIRC) maybe 18 months ago so that seems reasonable. The best lenses and prices seemed to be coming from Japan when I was shopping for one.

Thanks for the replies!!

The lens looks pretty good and I'm told it's free of any nasty fungus etc.

I saw the prices from Japan but having them shipped from so far away makes me nervous that it'll get damaged along the way!

Might have to put an offer in!

Thanks again - J

I have bought quite a few items from Japan via eBay, mostly medium format lenses, and it's all worked out great!
High rated sellers seem just as good as anywhere else.

The Japanese sellers treat their wares with utmost respect and only ship with good companies - I don't think I've ever heard of anyone having any problems. Most people who buy photographic items from Japan seem to be very happy with the experience.

The A 35mm is a very sought-after lens so prices are high compared to some others. I understand the A 45mm f/2.8 is also very good indeed and can be had for considerably less, though obviously it's not as wide. The widest I have is 55mm, but it's a superb lens.

Do budget for customs and duty. The seller I deal with also won't understate the price on the invoice for insurance purposes. Still a great way to buy glass.

In my experience that has all been included in the shipping price which is usually pretty reasonable.

That's not the case in the EU, Matt, and it's quite normal to see the tariffs add an additional 26% to the buying price.

Fingers crossed I'll find one in the UK at a reasonable price and cut out customs charges!
The one I was looking at went a couple of days ago sadly!
The search continues

that's about what I paid over a year ago. but note 35mm on a D or Z model is not that wide of an angle. allowing for the crop factor, a 45mm lens is the equiv of 56mm and the 35mm lens is the equiv of 44mm . it takes 25mm or shorter before you get into real wide angle images. I for one take crop factors seriously.
