I'm new to the Forum.
I'm trying to identify the various versions of the 6x7 105mm f/2.4 lens. I'd like to use one on my 645N with an adapter.
I have read that there are 3 versions (ages) of this lens, with the latest being designated "SMC" vs lenses with the designation "Super-Multi-Coated," and just "Super Takumar," (the oldest).
Yet I have seen many lenses with "Super-Multi-Coated" on the foot ring being called "SMC," (KEH, eBay).
The few sample pictures I have seen of lenses with just "SMC" on the front ring are obviously the newest-looking.
I've read that only "SMC" lenses are the "non-radioactive-glass" types and do not show yellowing with age.
Can someone please explain this to me? Are lenses with the "Super-Multi-Coated" designation on the front ring also correctly also called "SMC" or do only lenses with that specific labeling deserve that name?
Do lenses designated "Super-Multi-Coated" use radioactive glass?
Thanks,
Rich
The specs and engraved names are listed in the tables here:
SMC Pentax 67 / S-M-C Takumar 6x7 / Super Takumar 105mm F2.4 Reviews - 67 Normal Primes - Pentax Lens Reviews & Lens Database
The latest SMC version drops the "Takumar" name but should otherwise be optically the same.
