K-1 or 645D? I did it (not the sensible choice)

Just wanted to introduce myself. Have had a 645D for about 6 months and LOVE IT! I'm a huge CCD fan and also shoot a Leica M9 as well. So glad I found this group because the posts I'm reading echo my own thoughts about CCD sensors. They just draw differently, and no amount of PP will get a CMOS image to look like a CCD image. Look forward to learning and helping wherever I can...

Welcome to the forum lightvox. I also shot with an M9 until recently and somewhat regret selling it to buy an M240, apart from the better high ISO performance and versatility with live-view.

I intended to sell my P645D, having bought a K-1 about a year ago. I also now shoot P67 film, having bought many P67 lenses to use with the 645.

This thread has made me hesitate on my intent, particularly as I've just shot a few images here in the Australian Spring and I'm loving the results. Perhaps I should sell my P67 II film camera instead ( I also have a somewhat dodgy P6x7 MLU as a backup).

Here are two from today, using the SMC version of the P67 105 f/2.4 with a polariser:

Very nice--I'm curious, what does the smaller format do to the 105's "picture area"? If the first shot isn't a substantial crop, it looks as if you can frame a lot tighter than you can on its native mount.

At any rate, this thread has sparked a lot of daydreaming on my part--specifically, romping over hill-and-dale with a two body kit: a 645D for when you need a bracket and a P67 loaded with Velvia 50 or Acros for when the light is just right. If I had more cartilage in my knees, I swear I'd be able to swing it...

Ha, thanks--I was thinking that was too good to be true! Nothing wrong with the colors you're getting from that venerable lens, though...

Thanks guys. Looks like there is a wealth of knowledge in here especially regarding using non-645 lenses

Beautiful flower shots lenticular. Keep them coming since as we approach Winter and you approach Summer they will be welcome here to help me on the opposite hemisphere get through the cold, dreary days ahead.

Here's one taken with the normal 55mm...

very beautiful photo samples.
I had also found the, 645D more then adequate when compared to the newer offerings.
I returned a, 645Z after a 3 day side by side comparison and will instead await the Z's replacement
before once again challenging my satisfaction with the D model.

I'm very happy with the 55mm on the 645D. It renders beatifully and I always loved having a focal length equivalent between 40 and 50mm (35mm equivalent) using the old 2.8/40mm pancake on my LX or the 31mm limited when I had the K-3. If I had decided in favor of the K-1 I would have bought the 43mm limited...

I must say that of the 4-5 P67 lenses I have that the SMC 55 f4 is my favourite.

645D is vastly superior to any 3:2 format camera thanks to 4:3 aspect ratio. 5:4 would be even more useful. 3:2 is kind of a stupid panorama format for filling image with useless objects.
