Lens Compatability

Please forgive if this has been asked and answered, but I could not find it after searching. Will the newer 645 DA lenses work on a 645N or 645Nii? From what I have read, I think they will, but thought I would ask the experts. I played with an old Adox medium format camera this past week and have been bitten with the medium format bug. I primarily want a film camera (for now), but desire the forward and backward compatibility I believe the Pentax gear offers.. Thank you fine folk for your time!

Yes they will, though DA lenses without an aperture right don't allow for manual aperture control on film bodies (so you'd be shooting in P or Tv), and any SDM-only lenses will require manual focus. Also, I'm not sure about how well the 28-45mm covers the full film image circle, though the other lenses should be fine.

The D FA 35mm will be fully compatible since it uses screwdrive and is essentially a modern refresh of the old film FA 35mm.

Aubrey,
I concur with Adam. Even my 645 with the 645 SMC-A 35mm noticeably vignettes, so I'd expect the same or more on any wide angle 645 DA wide open.

Keep in mind that to get the equivalent field of view, the 645 is .62x full frame (FF) focal lengths. (35mm 645=21mm FF; 75mm 645=45mm FF; etc).

And if you're eventually thinking of a 645D or 645Z in your future, the 645N creates a 56 x 41.5mm image on film vs. the 645D/Z with a 44x33mm sensor.
Thus .63x 645N=645D/Z with digital.
or
.79x 645D/Z=FF.

Thank you for the very useful information! Pentaxians and Minolta folk are always the most helpful, least judgmental folk around!
