smc PENTAX DA645 25mm F/4

Hi,

Just would like to introduce myself. I'm a Brit living in Düsseldorf Germany.

Using a 645Z and a Spotmatic SPII from 1970.

I'm also interested in any comments folks may have on shooting with the smc PENTAX DA645 25mm F/4 Lens

Welcome aboard! There's a nice thread on the lens here:

DA645 25mm AL - please let me know your experience. - PentaxForums.com

See also the user reviews:

Pentax 645 Wide-Angle Primes - Lens Reviews and Specifications - SLR and Interchangeable Lenses - Pentax Lens Reviews & Lens Database

Due to prohibitively high manufacturing/QC costs this lens is no longer available, but perhaps it will make a return one day!

Welcome! The 645Z is a mighty camera, but the widest lens I have is the DFA35/3.5

The thread Adam linked is quite illuminating.

I think there are new DA25mm to buy:
Pentax SMC DA 645 25mm f/4 (Objektiv - Fasta vidvinkelobjektiv) | Scandinavian Photo
If you remove a zero then you have the price in €.
The lens is probably on the importer:
PENTAX DA 645 25MM F/4 AL SDM AW - Focus Nordic - Nordens största fotogrossist
You can probably buy it through your photo dealer if Focusnordic really has it.

welcome. I find the DFA25/4 an outstanding lens. Once I saw the sample images from Hark Lee in the reviews, that was all I needed to see, lol. The lens can be had here and there and are not too rare, just expensive.

I have a gallery of my own DFA25 images here: Lens: 645 DFA 25mm f/4 | Flickr

Mike, that is an outstanding series of images! Well done. I dont have the 25 I 'make do' with the 28-45 and use the k1 and 15-30 if I want to go wider. To be honest though I find using 2 systems a hassle and have contemplated using just the 645 in which case the 25 is a tempting proposition though maybe the small amount of extra FOV might not be worth it?

Thanks Adam, found that out myself, had the lens on order when I posted my query and was interested to hear what folks had to say.

Since then I've been informed it is no longer available as you wrote. Which is a bummer having seen some of MikeSF's images

Have the the 28-45 on order now as I'm off on a trip and need something in a hurry.

All seems fine so far and I've updated the firmware to 1.30 with no issues. It does have a 31,000 shutter count but I'll never take 70,000+ photos in my lifetime!
