Question re: "reasonable" price for 645N and lens

Hi all -

I'm wondering if any of you could help with this. There's a local person who is selling a 645N and a 75mm A-series lens for $800. Both seem to be in good condition, but that seems way overpriced to me. Am I thinking correctly? If so, what would be a reasonable counter-offer?

Thanks!

That seems to be the average price for both put together, the 645N on ebay on the lowend is around $450 & the 75mm -A f2.8 is around $250

I recently sold a 645N on this forum for$450. Also sold a 645 FA75 f/2.8 for $450. Based on this, I think the asking price is somewhat high, as the 75mm lens is the more obsolete manual focus A series.

Yeah, ebay is a good place to look to see what the asking price range is for a certain lens/body.
If anything tell 'em you're interested & see if they will take a lower offer & see what the person says (try offering $700 if they are), seeing that your interested & are "willing to buy righ now/asap" the person may lower the price a bit.

Another thought...you might want to take a look at what KEH's prices are for those items if they happen to have either or both for sale.

Keh has a 645N body in "bargain" condition for $528.00, with a 220 back.

On the other hand, I was looking at Craigslist in the Dallas, TX area (where I'm going to be, for work purposes, in a couple of weeks), and there's someone there selling a 645N body for $350, and some lenses for $100-120 each apiece. So ... I guess it's whatever the market will bear?

The camera you can hold and evaluate in person before buying is always worth a little more than the one being sold from afar. And a local return option is worth a little more than a distant return option.

FWIW, I've recently been selling a collection of 645 format equipment. Before pricing items I've typically used KEH prices as a guide and typically price a little lower, figuring that most people may feel more comfortable buying from an established business rather than an individual. Lower price hopefully increases my chance for a sale. As I recall, the 645n I recently sold (2nd Price Reduction - Pentax 645N Camera w/ 120 Film Insert, Front Body Cap & Strap - PentaxForums.com), I first listed at $550 or so. Ended up lowering to$450 before it sold.

So, I guess my point is that you can probably find some pretty good deals buying from individuals, but a little research (like you're doing) is a good idea.

There has been a recent spike in prices for 645N/645NII bodies and some of the lenses. Be on the lookout for price hikes for Pentax 6x7/67 105mm f/2.4 lenses. The 645N and 67 105mm f/2.4 combination seems to be a hot commodity amongst wedding photographers looking to add film to their kit.

With the A75mm lens, the kit you describe seems high. If it were an FA 75mm, then that would be a decent price.
