Jealous of your opportunity to be in Namibia right now. Its my favourite place to travel to. Ive been there twice previously and have already booked my 3rd trip for next year (1st with my 655z). I've been to spitzkoppe before but never heard Erongo mountains. I'll be googling that shortly.... Good luck!

Looking forward to some photos now that the event has passed. Hope it went as planned.

Ok so.....shooting the eclipse was very challenging.

In no particular order.

I was set up on top of my camper shell (re-enforced) all was fine until the wind picked up and the shell started to vibrate, so I moved down to the ground and in the process lost the moon and struggled mightily to find it in the view finder again and found it impossible to regain critical focus. Lesson don't move....

Because of the high angle it was impossible to get both the moon and the landscape into the frame.

I left my Alan key at home and could not adjust my mounting plate to remove the 2x converter. I feel like I lost critical sharpness with the converter and should have shot without it. Remember all the bloody tools!

Establishing the right balance of DOF, Exposure time and moon movement was a challenge.

Camera aside it was magic to watch the event unfold under an African sky.

I was particularly taken by the moment when there was only the tiniest slivers of white left.

I really like a photo that I took just as the eclipse started. (Attached) and I have also included a composite that works reasonably well for me in that it is accurate in scale and luminosity, I just had to drop the moon down in the frame.

Any trip to the field is bound to have its own oopsies...

For me the eclipse was in the early morning, with the moon just before the end of totality, so it was going to be low on the horizon. I actually planned it out pretty well, but sadly the decently dark place I went to (with good western horizons) ended up experiencing rolling fog, so I ended up shooting through massive amounts of moisture... *sigh*. On the other hand I did get some decent mist-at-dawn shots after.

Nothing I could do about it, fog everywhere on the drive out, you just have to make the best of what you have when you get on site.

But I do like the lighting you got on your moon, really nice view with just a prick of sunlight fading to darkness across the surface! I think you can be pretty happy with that.
