Originally posted by rjm007 Is there such a thing as a portrait lens "85mm" lens for the 645 range ? Normally I'd look for something equivalent around the 135mm range but with the exception of the 135LS there's only the 120 macro near to that in the 645 native lenses.
Any thoughts or suggestions - perhaps look at adapted 6x7 Taks ?
I'm a newbie in MF land so please be gentle with me :-)
For the Pentax 645N/D/Z there are numerous portrait lens possibilities. In my collection, I have used these ones with good results:
Native 645 lenses: D FA 90mm, A or FA 120mm, LS 135mm (in either LS or standard mode), A or FA 150mm, A or FA 45-85mm zoom, A or FA 80-160mm. I almost always use manual focus for portraits, so the A versions of these lenses are very acceptable. I would also mention the A, FA, and LS 75mm as portrature possibilities, athough some might consider them too wide except for full-body or group portraits.
Pentax 67 lenses: 67 105mm f 2.4, 67 macro 135mm f 1.4, 67 LS165mm f 1.4. I have not been able to get the Leaf Shutter (LS) feature of the LS165mm lens to function on the Pentax 645 cameras, but anyway it is an outstanding lens used in standard (non-LS) mode on the Pentax 645 cameras.
There are other Pentax 67 lenses of different focal lengths that I do not own and have not tried. Of course, these lenses require a P67-P645 adapter, and it is advisable to purchase the original Pentax adapter if you can find one.
Hoping this information may be helpful.
Carl Zeiss Jena (CZJ) lenses in Pentacon 6 mount: CZJ Biometar 80mm f 2.8, CZJ Biometar 120mm f 2.8, and the CZJ Sonnar 180mm f 2.8. These are all excellent, but the 180 may be little heavy to carry around very extensively.
There may be other CZJ lenses that I do not have in my collection, but these are the ones I have used and have found acceptable for portraiture. All of course require a P6-P645 adapter.
