Pentax 67: just one lens

Hi all :-)

If you could have just one lens for this camera, which would it be and why?

Cheers
Peter

I had one and I used the 45mm f4 the most often—excellent in all respects—with a very usable FOV and a relatively compact form.

SSIBLE!
I agree with Cipher on the 45mm, but I would have to agonize over the decision to not pick the 90mm f2.8! Twice as useful for me! LOL!

67 75/2.8AL

Perfect "one lens" focal length, great optics, fast and not too big. Also excellent for reversing, when doing macro work.

Stellar all around lens.

the problem with the question is that in reality, if I can have only one lens on a camera, my choice is going to be about focal length, not optics. I love 50's on 35mm, it is by far my most used 35mm focal length. Which means I'd want something similar on my P67. I've never used either 90/2.8 or the 100 macro, so by default my choice would be the 105/2.4.

105 f/2.4 is my favourite. Can do a lot with it.

I probably used the 55/4 most - but it was one of my first two lenses ( the other being the 90- so it had an unfair advantage. Still equal first as the kit expanded though.

In its time, Pentax would have made a very good effort to answer the question for you by supplying the Pentx6x7 / 67 with the evergreen 105mm f2.4 lens that found its place among legions of beginner and amateur photographers. For more still, many didn't buy any other lens, staying with the 105mm.

Others are fussier. A few years back I loaned an SMC Pentax 67 75mm f2.8AL lens and compared it alongside the 90mm f2.8. Well! Turns out I didn't return the 75mm, and I happily coughed up (a lot!) for what is undeniably a little gem and highly sought after on the used market. This lens has a sensitive touch to the focus -- very precise, and a very light touch to the aperture ring compared to the need for gripping and literally wrenching the Av ring of any other lens.

I thought I'd love the 105/2.4. It's nice but I find myself surprisingly enjoying the 55/4 more often. Not something I've really figured out, I'm pretty new to the 67 system.

Easily the 55-100 zoom. Sharp, contrasty and several focal lengths.

Probably for me, too.

But if that’s how I used the camera, I’d get a Fuji Texas Leica and be done with it.

Thanks alot for the feedback folks. The reason why Im asking is because Im off on a longer trip with my family... and I just got hold of a very nice P67ii with the 90mm 2.8. However, Ive been pondering if I should get the 105 instead. But instead of asking the typical 90 vs 105 I was curious about what people would go for if beeing limited. Im limiting myself for this trip because its a family trip and not a photo trip. It still seems like the 90 is more versatile and convenient for a trip when youll do landscape, people, street, indoor, other stuff... instead of the 105 i mean.

The 45/4 and later 55/4 are both very good lenses but I'd need something longer to compliment them. Either 90 (in my case the L/S version), 165/2.8 or 200/4 depending on need.

For just one lens I'd go for the 55-100 zoom, although heavy and bulky. In reality I normally carry 45 or 55, 90L/S, 165 or 200 as a three lens kit (which will fit into a surprisingly small bag).

The 90 L/S is because I can't find a normal 90/2.8 for any sensible money.

I started out my 6X7 system years ago with the latest versions of the 55 mm f/4 and of the 200 mm f/4. Both are tremendous lenses, sharp and contrasty. Over the years, I added a 45 mm f/4, a 90 mm f/2.8, a 105 mm f/2.4, a 100 mm Macro f/4, a 165 mm f/2.8, an M* 300 mm f/4, a 55-100 mm f/4.5 zoom and finally a 75 mm f/2.8 AL. All are excellent lenses. Choosing just one would be heartbreaking but I'd say the 75 mm f/2.8 AL is the most "stellar" of my arsenal. The only one I find disappointing is the 90 mm f/2.8 because of its lack of contrast (I do landscapes).
