Help with Bayonet mount 6x7 600mm F4

The rear lens cap and the 6x7 to k adapter attach with slop.
Does this lens need a certain thickness 77mm filter to press against the mount? Am I missing a part?
thanks, Teddy

I checked my 600/4 and I took a couple photos with a SMC Pentax 77mm screw-in filter attached. I can mount the lens cap with the filter attached to the lens.

The 600/4 takes screw-in or 6x7 bayonet filters and when attaching to the lenses rear filter mount the filter faces frontwards. Also note as this is an outer bayonet lens, you have to turn the locking ring to attach the rear cap or mount the lens on a body or adapter. There is a small white dot that needs to be on the top.

First shot shows the 77mm filter attached and the second with it removed.

Here are the pages from the 6x7 lens manual, on how to mount the filters on the 600/4:

Looking at your rear lens cap photos, does it have the four bayonet tabs? See the picture of mine, the cap is hard plastic and has the four bayonet tabs.

Thanks so much for your help. The locking ring was turned way out. I imagines it was a quarter turn to release and after I figured out to turn it many times I found it locked down well.

The outer bay locking ring and filters are not easy to use. If you are going to use filters on this lens, use multi-coated ones because the uncoated ones cause ghosting flare on the film. Any filter at the rear will push the focus back slightly so compensation is needed. Be aware that this lens has some serious longitudinal chromatic aberration at the wider stops. See Phil and my lens tests in this forum.
