Hi All,
Any idea how to replace the shutter speed dial?

This is a common problem. Just like the battery holder on the original 645. You'll need a donor body, or perhaps a custom made spring, plus a 3D printed knob and button.

Yes, that should be the right part. They also sell a service manual that may be helpful for guidance if you attempt the repair.

Please let me know how it goes. The first 645n body I bought was shipped by the seller from Australia to the US, and it was damaged in shipment - the shutter speed knob was broken off just like in your picture. I bought the replacement knob from US Camera, but then the seller and I decided to put in a claim to the postal insurance to recover the cost of the camera. Unfortunately, the US Post Office required me to bring the camera in to inspect the damage, and they confiscated the camera, explaining that if the insurance claim is awarded that they must keep the damaged merchandise. If the claim doesn't go forward, then they are supposed to return the damaged camera to me. I wish I knew that was going to happen, as I would at least have kept the body cap, camera strap, and maybe the film insert at home - they took those too. It seemed they wanted me to turn in the 3 lenses too, which would have been foolish (I left those home) as they were fine. I'm still waiting on their insurance decision. I'm concerned, though, that if they end up keeping the damaged camera that they will just trash it, and any serviceable parts on it will be lost to the photographic community. That's a shame.

But, in any event, I did get 3 lenses (A 45, 75, 80-160) at a good price, and have purchased another 645N body and two more lenses (FA 45-85, FA 200). Since the shutter knob breaking off appears to be a common type of damage to the 645N (just a little hollow plastic shaft holds it on), I'll keep the knob I purchased just in case.

Good luck with your repair!

Richard.

So far I cannot take top plate off. All screws removed. Doesn’t want to come off. I have the service manual. Still can’t understand what is holding it.

Your post reminded me that I saw a trick to removing the 645n top cover. Did you remove the hot shoe bracket to reveal the hidden screws? See here:

Flickr: Discussing 645N Repair, how to disassemble in Pentax 645,645N,645N? and 645D

Click through on the picture to the original Flickr picture post.

Also this text mentions the same:

Let us know if this helps, I hope it does (especially since I may have to do this someday too!)

Good luck - Richard.

This the only thing that holds the top right now. Both screws are removed. Don't know what next.

So, what did you have to do finally to remove the top cover? Did the links I shared on the hot shoe screws help? Did you take any pictures of the removal process that you could share? And, finally, were you able to fix the shutter dial? Thanks.
