I usually take only one lens but then I hate changing lenses while on the go. I will often take two bodies one with a prime and one with a zoom

Yeah, trying to do good photography with a group of hikers is complicated for sure. Been there, have dealt with that.

When I'm out just for fun than it is one lens 24-105.
When I'm going to concert 24-70 2.8 and 70.200 (when I got an accreditation)

When I'm on a photo-tour in a town or on holiday irix 11mm, 15-30, 24-70, 70-200 in a camera backpack - yes it is heavy and the strolling will last round about 3 hours. The 150-450 an a tripod in the car to take it with me when there is a need for.

For a walk I usually bring a zoom, for a planned location shot, two primes at the most

"Days out" and holidays = K-70 + 10-20 Sigma, 17-70 Sigma and sometimes the 55-300 PLM
Airshows and the like = K3, K3 II + 17-70 Sigma, 100-300 F4 Sigma, 70-200 F2.8 Sigma plus the Sigma 1.4x TC, and occasionally the 10-20 Sigma if there's likely to be some sort of of aviation museum (etc.)
Hiking - I just can't do that because my very dodgy knee makes walking any distance very difficult/painful

I have only APS-C cameras and take out two lenses:-
one Limited lens (a prime or the 20-40 zoom)
plus a zoom (usually 18-135 or 28-105 or 55-300PLM);
at least one lens will be WR.

I typically haul as much as I can fit in the backpack plus the camera. So a full complement for me now is:
K-3ii with the SMC A 50/1.2 and battery grip (Start with this)
Sigma 300mm f/4 APO Macro
S-M-C 200/4 Takumar
Vivitar Series 1 135/2.3
D FA 100/2.8 WR Macro
DA 77mm ltd
DA 35/2.4
S-M-C 28/3.5 Takumar
S-M-C 17/4 fisheye Takumar
A smaller travel tripod with a manfrotto 3047 head on it
A 77mm CPL and set of step up rings
A Vivitar 285HV flash and spare set of batteries
M42 adapter ring
Reverse mount ring
M42 extension tube set
M42 helicoid
A spare set of batteries
A spare set of memory cards

I basically take that with me when I go out unless I know I am doing a specific type of shooting like astro and then I take multiple cameras with specific lenses on them for each of my tripods. Even on a long hike I will haul the full bag around like I did last fall with the boy scouts up at Jay Cooke State Park as we did a 15 mile hike on the "technical" trails. Got a nice grand tour of the park and for most of the day we didn't run into other people

I can fit my 645Z and 35, 55, 75, 90 macro 120 macro, 150 and 300 in my Peak Design 15 litre Everyday Backpack. Plus a tripod.
It's not light, but for a few miles up and down hills? No problem.

K-70 APSC user here. Typically take 16-85 and 55-300 PLM. If out at golden hour will throw the 40 Ltd in my pocket as well as it renders those colours beautifully and adds no real weight. If it's an out and back hike, I often mount 55-300 going out and switch to the 16-85 on the way back to pick up details spotted on the way out.

Have a number of other lenses I often use including the Sigma 10-20 (slow version) and 100mm Pentax macro but don't typically hike with them.

Always some kind of 28mm | 50mm | 135mm - the 50mm is sometimes a Macro, or if I decide not to take the 135mm I'd take a 100mm Macro.

Now for a family gathering, I leave the 28mm out and bring the F 35-70mm

Given the sub-forum in which this was posted, I think @barondla was specifically asking about medium format carries....

Often with a 35mm film camera it's a single lens, like my M 20 f4, K 35 f2, or M 50 f1.7. I go out with a purpose in mind and pick a lens that works well for that. With my K-5 II often it's a pair of lenses, like my DA 15 and 18-135 or 18-135 and a fast 50. This summer I am planning on a longer motorcycle trip and will probably take my Kiron 28mm f2 and the M 50 f1.7 and probably with two bodies so I have a backup. *Maybe* an 85 or 90mm prime for short tele duties but that's up for debate.

My camera bag is a smaller messenger bag and it doesn't allow for me to load up with gear. I kind of like the restriction. I focus on getting the shots I can get with the gear I have instead of changing out lenses.

On 6x6 medium format (Pentacon Six), it usually were the 80mm/2.8 and 50mm/4.0. I brought the 180mm/2.8 Sonnar only when I planned a specific shot - it's a 1.2kg lens, which requires a bulky hood. I did not usually carry another camera for other field-of-view, sometimes however a compact SLR loaded with slide film when shooting B&W on the P-Six.

On digital (K-1, KP), I often pack whatever primes I spontaneously feel like using and fit the planned bag, after having covered a wide range similar to normhead. For specific short predictable walks, it often is just a two-prime kit such as FA31 + DFA100WR or DA15 + DA40, or just one compact zoom - depending on the weather.

Neat hearing all the stories. I was aiming more at medium format choices, but it's all good. Surprised more mf shooters don't augment their kit with smaller formats. I can see the K-1 riding along with the 645Z and even the Q with adapter for ultra tele shots.

Went out with the K-1 today. Less than 1 mile walking since the car can be driven to many parts of the swamp. Only had the afternoon, time was running short, and packing the bag was a 10 minute deal. Since the trip was to try out the 60-250 it went in the Domke F1 little bit bigger bag along with DA*300, DA 100 macro, 77 Ltd, 43 Ltd, 31 Ltd, and Sigma 8-16. Since I didn't take time to properly pack, there was also a Lensbaby Composer with 4 optics and a 540 flash in the 2 side pockets. Also had the Soratama along.

Doubt a properly packed bag would ever have the 60-250 and DA*300 together. Probably not the Lensbaby and Soratama. The bag was heavy and for longer walks a backpack would be preferable. It would also be easier to pack if I had more focused interests. One minute it's a landscape, then a macro, followed by wildlife, and artsy special effects shots.

Thanks,
barondla

My K-1 completely killed my desire for a 645z. My hit and run style makes good use of SR.
