That's what I do when I'm going out shooting with one of my 6x7 bodies, I match a (1) lens to where/what I'm planing to shoot. Since I usually only shoot one roll (10 exposures) per outing, having a 2nd or 3rd lens with me is not necessary.

You can't shoot 135,000 images in 6 years with one lens. I have often taken 800 images on single outing for wildlife, and 300 images on single hike. everything from informal portraits to landscape, to macros, to wildlife.

I simply hate missing opportunities. if I'm there, with a camera, I may as well get a picture. Going on one of my 4 hour hikes with one roll of film would drive me crazy.

Usually I take just one lens. I normally have a good idea what photos I am likely to be taking so it will be a 28,30 or 35mm in one scenario or a 50 or 100mm macro in another. I sometimes take 2 lenses (or my Fuji XF10 in my pocket as the second lens) if I think there will be a chance of a completely different subject arising.So for example on yesterday's walk I put my K 28mm f3.5 on my KP with the intention of shooting a pretty little river and some interesting trees, but also packed my K 200mm f4 in case the local herons put in an appearance. For street shooting I will take the XF10 and a camera with a 28mm-ish (APSC) or 40mm (film). Even if I go on a holiday I will only put three lenses in my bag, but also 3 cameras. Typically my holiday kit is a film SLR with a 40 and 55mm lens, the XF10 for wide angle, and a Fuji XE model with a 27mm lens and an appropriate adapter so I can use the 55mm with it.

My tastes have evolved over time and now my 645Z "travel kit" comprises three P67 lenses with the '67 to 645' adapter : 45 mm f/4, 75 mm f/2.8 and 165 mm f/2.8. Not too heavy, it all fits into the same bag and gives me speed and latitude. If I carry only two lenses, then it is the 75 mm and the 165 mm, both f/2.8.

For day hikes I usually take the z plus one main lens and a comfort lens. Usually the 80-160 as main and 45-85 (or rarely 28-45) as comfort lens, no tripod.

If I think I might need a tripod I strap on a small Berlebach with the swivel top so that I don't need a tripod head (weighs less than 1kg).

Most of the weight I carry in my backpack is water and electrolytes.

Going after wildlife, I take the 600 and a monopod.

If I go to a location where I can drive all the way, then all bets are off and the whole lot goes with, plus the big tripod.

The other lenses at home are on standby to make me feel good when I need it.

And sometimes a K-5 IIs.

My usual "walk around" kit has been a K-3ii, battery grip, and 18-135 and 55-300 zooms - these in a shoulder bag. I would sometimes also take a second body fitted with a Tamron 10-24 zoom. I have developed a hip problem and in order to alleviate that to some extent by spreading the load more evenly, I have bought a backpack. This will hold all the foregoing kit plus the two "plastic fantastics" along with a 10-17mm fisheye zoom, although I have removed the battery grip. Test walks suggest that this will help the hip but also give me more options.

I can always swap items with a main storage case if the day needs it.

I bring every single lens I own. Seriously, I overpack and then I never regret that I forgot to bring the one lens that would have been perfect for the shot.

Now if you'll excuse me, I must go ice my aching back.

Wow, it has been a year since posting the original question. The 645 system outgrew the Little bit bigger Domke. Switched to an old Tamrac bag. It normally holds the Z, Arsat 30 fisheye, DFA 35, DFA 55, FA 80-160, A 120 macro, 67 165 F2.8, FA 300 F5.6, FA 400, 1.4 and 2x rear converters. There's also a 67 120 soft lens and extension tube that won't fit in the bag. The whole bag goes if I can drive right up to the spot.

Bought a Mindshift dual backpack for hiking. Only had time for a few hikes so far. Moved closer to my goal of 3 lenses. Carried Arsat 30, DFA 35, DFA 55, A 120 macro, and FA300 (with 1.4 converter). This was workable for landscapes. Like Norm, I hate to miss a shot. It would be easier if I didn't shoot so many different things.

K3ii + sigma 150-500 for birding or K3ii + sigma 18-35 general walk around or K3 ii + tamron 90 for bugs. These are the most used.
I need to get my sigma 8-16 out for a walk. 👍

I shoot just landscapes so can take a 645z, 28-45,45-85 and 80-160 and lee filters all in one bag. The body and 28-45 is heavy, but the other lenses are pretty light so all in all mass wise it doesn't seem to much worse than a kit bag of 35mm gear.

I tend to right size my kit bag - if I know I just need one lens for the job, I just take it. No need carrying excess gear
