Hey all!

Just wondering if anyone had come across this problem.

I was shooting with the camera a few days ago and It just died on me. It wasn't the batteries because I had just changed them.

The sound it made was as if the electronics inside had just failed and had a power down. The mirror never went down and the battery contacts look pretty clean.

I was wondering if anyone knew what fails on these cameras the most?

Was this in mid-operation - eg you pressed the shutter and the shutter stuck open? OR was it at beginning or end of the film roll?

Remove the "fresh" batteries. Let the camera sit for about 10-15 minutes.
If you have a voltmeter, check their voltage - they should be around 1.5V. Some batteries have higher voltages and can cause issues - e.g. don't use Lithium batteries. Try another set of batteries, perhaps some that aren't fresh.
Have you removed the lens and.or film pack (yes, you will loose the pictures unless you do it in a dark bag)?
Were you doing anything unusual like multiple exposure?

I have similar case with Pentax 645. My batteries were not fresh, but I did not expect them exhausted yet. It happened that one of six batteries was out of order. After I replaced it camera started work as it should. Of course, your case may be different. BTW testing the battery by the voltmeter is misleading. There are dedicated devices for that or multimeters with dedicated mode.
