Ah! Self-indulgence ! It sounds so sweet ... Thanks for your insight, Ed ! (Just kidding, as I'm sure you perceive ... lol!)

I just got the DFA HD version of the 35mm and it renders stunning images. Had (still have, actually) the FA version which was my favorite lens until I saw what the HD version was producing. It has a sharpness or "crispness" and clarity that is as good as any MF lens I've had, and that includes my Hasselblad Zeiss Planar 100mm used on my Hassy 503CX film camera. I wasn't sure how good the HD 35 would be at first, but it is impressive. The FA 35 is still very good, but the HD 35 is better when it comes to overall IQ in my opinion. I also have the DFA 55mm and it is very close to the HD 35, but the HD 35 has maybe a smidge more clarity and sharpness. Both, however, are excellent.

I had considered the 28-45 but the price was what held me back, and also that I prefer primes. I do mostly landscapes and the 55 and 35 focal lengths cover 90% of what I need. I also have an FA 80-160 when I need something more and it's also been very good, but doesn't get used that much.

100% agree. This discussion is making me wish I had the 35mm DFA now, even though it would be pure self-indulgence...
Given the times we are living in, I don't see why you would resist to self-indulgence...
